Speaker 1: I’ve never wanted to be anything but an actress. It’s a tough life and I know that few people make a living from it, but acting is my passion. But my parents say that I should go with my heart. I really appreciate the fact that they say I should do what I love for a career. Even if it means that my life won’t perhaps be as easy as it would be if I pursue a more traditional career path.

Speaker 2: My Mum and Dad own a restaurant ... one of the most popular restaurants in the city, actually. They started it when I was little and I spent all my summers helping them out in it when I was growing up. For a few years now, they’ve been thinking about expanding the business opening up two or three more eateries in different parts of the city. That’s why I chose to do business studies at university. I’m in my final year now and I really can’t wait to start working with them.

Speaker 3: There have been doctors in my family for generations. Two of my grandparents are doctors, my mother is a doctor and my brother is studying to be a doctor. I suppose that a background like this pushes you in one of two directions: either you are completely turned off medicine or you want to become part of it. Like my mum and brother, I have never considered becoming anything else but a doctor.

Speaker 4: For years, I was certain that I wanted to be an engineer. Maths was always my best subject at school. But in my final year of school, I went to a lecture on cosmology with one of my friends. I was fascinated by what I heard in the lecture, so I started reading up on the subject. I soon realized that there was nothing else I wanted to do with my life.

Speaker 5: Should you pursue a career in which you have some natural talent? I think so. That’s why I want to be a fashion designer. It’s the area where I feel ― and have been told ― I have real talent. I know it’s never just talent that gets you where you want to be but the ability to keep going no matter how many setbacks you have. Luckily I think I have this determination.

1. Russia, also officially known as the Russian Federation, is the largest country in the world. Its territory is 17,075,400 square kilometers. It is the only country which is washed by 3 oceans and 12 seas. Most of the population lives in the European part of Russia.

B. Russia is the country with the largest forest reserves in the world. 45% of its territory is covered in green forests. Russian forests are the biggest ‘lungs’ of the Earth. They produce oxygen and clean the atmosphere of carbon dioxide and other pollutants.

C. There are more than five thousand languages in the world. 280 million people around the world speak Russian and it is one of the most widely spoken native languages in Europe. The United Nations uses Russian as one of the official languages of the organization. It is also used in international commerce, politics, academic and cultural life.

D. For its collection of books, the Russian State Library is considered to be the biggest in Europe and one of the largest in the world. The Russian State Library was founded in 1862, in Moscow. There are items in 247 languages of the world.

E. Russia is known all over the world for its space programmers. In 1957 the Soviet Union launched Sputnik 1, the first artificial satellite in the world. Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin was the first man to journey into space. There are other impressive space achievements of the country like the first long space flight, the first woman cosmonaut in space, and the first spacewalk.

F. One of the most popular souvenirs tourists buy in Russia is the Matryoshka. It is a doll made of wood and painted with colourful ornaments. Although the Matryoshka is called a doll, it is actually a set of dolls of different sizes placed inside one another.

You will agree with this decision of the selection board if you know that with this gadget a telephone can be charged in 20 to 30 seconds. It contains a lot of energy in a very small space. Besides, it can be recharged 10,000 cycles compared with 1,000 cycles for ordinary batteries.
