Цель: совершенствование устной и письменной речи учащихся через обобщение знаний о традициях празднования Рождества в европейских странах, США и России.
Задачи:

обобщить лексико-грамматический материал по теме «Рождество»,
совершенствовать навыки и умения монологической, диалогической и письменной речи.
Воспитательные:
воспитывать уважение к культуре и традициям других народов;
воспитывать любовь к своей родине, культуре и традициям;
прививать любовь и интерес к иностранному языку;
воспитывать умение работать в сотрудничестве и самостоятельно.
Развивающие:
систематизировать страноведческий материал о Великобританиии;
расширять лингвальный кругозор учащихся;
способствовать развитию творческой деятельности учащихся;
развивать умение сравнивать и обобщать.

Примечание
За 2 недели до урока учащиеся были разделены на микрогруппы и получили индивидуальные задания по поиску информации о праздновании Рождества в Англии, Германии, Франции, Америке и России. Каждая группа должна подготовить презентацию по теме: «Традиции празднования Рождества».

T: Hallo, boys and girls! I am very glad to see you! Sit down please. Today is the 24th of December, isn’t it? And I want you to guess the topic of our lesson. Listen to this poem.

Santa comes on Christmas Eve
Seeking those who yet believe
Through a frosty winter night
In a sleigh with reindeer flight

S: Today is the Catholic Christmas Eve. And we’ll tell about Christmas.
T: You are right. We’ll talk about Christmas, about traditions and customs of this holiday. Also the topic of our lesson is “Christmas traditions” (слайд № 1). Christmas is a beautiful holiday which is loved by children and adults. I hope you’ll enjoy our English lesson. Be active and friendly. Before we start you should divide into 3 groups according the number which you choose (учащиеся рассаживаются по группам). There are groups: (дети выбирают себе названия групп в соответствии с тематикой). The group which gets more points is the winner. Now let’s start.

The Origin of Christmas (слайд № 2)
T: To begin with, Christmas is a religious holiday. The word Christmas means Christ’s Mass that is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. That is why many people go to church on that day. Christmas is celebrated in all countries but in a different way.
One of the most important public holidays (слайд № 3)
T: In Great Britain Christmas is celebrated on the 25th of December. It is one of the most important public holidays. The Queen gives her Christmas message which is broadcast on television, radio and the Internet. A beautifully decorated Christmas tree – a traditional gift from the people of Norway, which stands in Trafalgar Square, in the centre of London, shining brightly with all its beautiful lights for people who gather on Christmas Eve.
Decorations in the city (слайд № 4)
T: It is great to walk in the city streets before Christmas. Everywhere you can see slogans "A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year".
Shops and shopping centers put up Christmas lights and decorations as millions of people in Britain do the Christmas shopping. They buy presents, Christmas cards for their relatives and friends. Christmas services are held in churches and carol singers perform in the streets and public places, raising money for charity.
Indoor Christmas decorations (слайд № 5)
T: As usual the English decorate their houses and light candles on Christmas Eve. They put up lights and illuminated Christmas figures outside their houses.
There is a tradition to decorate the Christmas tree. (слайд № 6) The Christmas tree stands in everybody's living room at Christmas, giving joy and happiness to everybody. There is usually a silver star surrounded by tiny lights on the very top of the tree. Silver bells, tinsel and sparkling lights hang on the branches. The traditional colours of decorations are green, red and gold.
The English people also hang mistletoe on the doors of their homes. They believe that this plant has magical powers. It can help peaceful and friendly people come in and keep out witches or evil spirits.
Presents (слайд № 7)
T: The most important and pleasant tradition of Christmas is the giving of presents. Beautifully packed presents are put under the Christmas tree. Children leave stockings near their bed hoping that Santa Claus will come at night and bring them small presents, fruits and nuts.
Letters to Santa Claus
T: Before Christmas children also write letters to Santa Claus and say what presents they want to get. However, the Christmas season officially starts four weeks before the holiday. This period of the year is called Advent. During these weeks every child creates a list of highly wanted presents, which is sent as a letter to Father Christmas.
Christmas dinner (слайд № 8)
T: At Christmas most families come together for a dinner. A traditional Christmas meal in Britain includes roast turkey with potatoes and vegetables with special desserts such as mince pies, Christmas pudding and traditional fruit cake. Coins which are usually added to the cake are believed to bring good luck to anyone who reveals them.
After dinner they go to the sitting room to listen to the Christmas traditional speech of the Queen which is broadcast on television, radio and the Internet. For many British families Christmas is the most important holiday of the year.
