Task 4. Imagine that you are doing a project “Life without gadgets” together

with your friend. You have found some illustrations and want to share the

news. Leave a voice message to your friend. In 2.5 minutes be ready to tell the

friend about the photos:

give a brief description of the photos (2 features connected with the subject of

the project in each photo minimum);

say in what way the pictures are different (2 features connected with the

subject of the project minimum);

mention the advantages and disadvantages (1–2) of the two types of books;

explain how these photos illustrate the project “Life without gadgets”;

express your opinion on the subject of the project – whether you would like to

live without gadgets and why yes or no.

You will speak for not more than 3 minutes (2–3 sentences for every item of

the plan, 12–15 sentences total). You have to talk continuously.

Hi, Alex. I know you are at the library and can’t answer my call. That’s why I’m sending a voice message to you. I’ve found two photos for our project “Life without gadgets” and I’d like to discuss them with you.

In the first photo I can see a maiden with a book in her hands. She is standing in the centre of the library room. The second photo shows us a young woman sitting on a sofa at home and holding an electronic book. Both pictures show the way of spending time without gadgets.

In fact, these photos have some differences. Firstly, the places where the actions are happening are different: the girl in the first photo is in a public place while the woman is enjoying the home atmosphere. Secondly, the first girl is standing, on the contrary, the woman is sitting. Thirdly, they are wearing differently: casual clothes for working and walking in the first photo and home clothes in the second one.

Definitely, both ways of spending time with different kinds of books have some advantages and disadvantages. The first advantage of paper book is that a paper book will never run out of battery. The second one is that a paper book can be read by elderly generation without explaining how to use it. But one of the disadvantages is that paper books take up a lot of space, it is not always convenient to take them with you. As for the electronic book, the greatest plus is that you can carry entire libraries with you in an e-book. The only minus for it is that e-books are harmful to the eyes: they put a strain on the eyes.

In my opinion, these photos illustrate our project “Life without gadgets” very well as they show different ways of spending time in everyday life.

Actually, I completely disagree to live without gadgets. As for me, gadgets give you freedom, save your time. Also gadgets serve both for solving business issues and for entertainment purposes.
