Henry Bessemer, the first inventor of skyscrapers

Englishmen, Henry Bessemer (1813-1898) invented first process for mass-producing steel inexpensively, essential to the development of skyscrapers.

First use of the term Skyscraper

• The term "skyscraper" was first used during the 1880s, shortly after the first 10 to 20 story buildings were built in the United States.

Lipstick building

Philip Johnson’s elliptic-shaped skyscraper contrasts with all the surrounding rectangular buildings on Third Avenue.

Park Row building

• The building is one of several surviving late 19 century office towers situated on the street that became known as Newspaper Row, the busy center of newspaper publishing in New York City from the 1840s to the1920s.

Dubai skyscrapers in the clouds

• People do not call them skyscrapers for nothing.
• Some of the world’s tallest buildings emerge from thick clouds in these incredible images that look as if they have been beamed from another world.

• Wills Tower
• The building weighs more than 222,500 tons, and it costs more than $ 175 million to build.

Central Plaza

• Central Plaza is a 78- storey , 374m skyscraper completed in 1995 at Harbor Road. Central Plaza was also the tallest building in the world.
