Introduction
It is an excellent idea to begin the school year by having our senior students set positive goals. The start of the year is a tough time for teachers too. This lesson will be a good help for us to identify our own goals in teaching, to reflect on the strategies, and to get started.
Seeing progress towards goals is the most important factor in what motivates learners to persist in their education. Just having a goal is not what leads to success. It is having a plan to reach the goal and seeing progress as the plan proceeds that lead to goal attainment.
Procedure
1 Activity Warm up -Ice breaking
Make a sentence with the words given (anchor, drift, must, port, reach, not, to, we, tie, an, sail 3,-,-)
Students make the following sentence -To reach a port we must sail-sail, not tie an anchor-sail, not drift.
The key words – sail, drift, port (have students brainstorm on the meaning of the words ….)
Sail---to move----to navigate----to reach------ to go ahead------to advance-----to progress
Drift------- to be carried along by currents of air or water -------to wander-- ---- to move aimlessly--- to live without clear purpose or goal
Port- ------destination--------aim -------goal
What can be drifted? Elicit possible answers (pile, log…..)
Do you want to be drifted through your last school year unable to decide on your future career?
If not – let’s get started!
A good beginning makes a good ending! Where to start?
The best place to start is with you. Choose a good logo.--- Sail not drift
“If you do not know to which port you are sailing, no wind is favorable”.

Activity 2- Goal Map making
Definition of goal-Goals can be anything you want to accomplish—personal, academic, social. Goals are important because they help you to get what you want, improve your performance, keep you focused, stay on track and get you motivated. Goal making is very important to become better as learners. It improves our character and individuality. It develops self discipline and self control.
There are 2 types of goals: long-term goals and short term goals.
Smaller can be better
When it comes to goal setting, smaller is better. Help your students set small, achievable goals that can be accomplished quickly. As you work through a project or unit, you can help them set more difficult and larger, longer-term goals. During the initial phase of any project, short-term goals that ensure immediate success are essential. Young students, in particular, are not able to focus on long-term goals. One setback during a long series of successes with short-term goals is much easier to handle than a larger set-back with one long-term goal.
Your long-term goal of the year is going to college. It will take longer to accomplish.
You need to break this long- term goal into smaller, more manageable goals. So you can stay on track and not get overwhelmed.( participations in group or individual projects, school Olympiads…)
These smaller goals take you a shorter time to accomplish but they help you to reach your long-term goal.
They will navigate you, tell about your visible progress.
You will get inspired and motivated by your small victories.
Step by step climb a steep, rugged mountain.
Break it down into steps such as determine a target date, establish a training schedule.
Make you work plan .( Have you got a plan Mr. Fix?- Round the World in 80 days) .
Mark periods.
self evaluate you progress,
Seek feedback from your peers, teachers and parents.
And don’t wait for miracles to happen .
Miracle is another word for effort and hard work.
You are a creator and you already have everything you need to create a life that’s filled with satisfaction and , happiness,
Develop your strengths getting rid of your weaknesses.
Activity 3 Modeling Your Goal Map

4 What needs to be done first? (Prepare your learning materials, books, portfolios…)
5 What are the resources, assistance or help you will need to help you reach your goal?
6 what is your learning style?
7 what are the things that may interfere with reaching your goal? 9time-magement skills, friends and other distractions

10 Get started right now for Future belongs to those who prepare for it today
