The ‘Ural’ Russian State Dance Ensemble
The ensemble is supervised by Vladimir Karachintsev, director of the ensemble, and managed by Svetlana Lukina, its art director, Alexei Razin, company’s choreographer, and Valery Ostanin, music director.
The leader of the company, Vladimir Karachintsev, started his career at the Chelyabinsk Regional Philharmonia in 1962 as a ballet dancer. In 1970 he founded the ‘Uralskaya Skomoroshina’ dancing group joined by six brothers of the Karachintsev family. In 1980 the ‘Ural’ dance ensemble was created, where he first worked as a ballet dancer, and later became the company’s director in 1984.
The ‘Ural’ ensemble has become the keeper of national traditions of the Southern Ural and an essential choreographic cultural component of both the region and the whole country. The company has won many national and international competitions and presented Russia at prestigious international folklore festivals in Canada, the USA, Australia, Finland, Sweden, Italy, France, Spain, Greece, Czech Republic, China, Bulgaria, Romania. Its regular performances at various international music and dance venues are much anticipated by the public. The leadership of Vladimir Karachintsev and professionalism of his ensemble have become the backbone for the ‘Sinegorye’ International Festival of National Cultures held in the Ural and attended by the largest choreographic Russian and foreign dancing groups.
The company includes 46 dance performers and 8 orchestra members.
The ensemble’s repertoire is based on choreographic compositions originating from unique Ural folklore dances.
