I am sure that books play a very important role in my life. In ancient times, books were written by hand. It was difficult to write a book with a pen. Then printing came into our life. Printing played an important role in the development of literature and culture. For a long time people used papyrus and skins of different animals to write on. Then Chinese invented paper. At last men learned how to print. It happened in Germany in the middle of the fifteenth century.

Unit objectives

in this unit, we have already talked about celebrations  and festivals: Hallowe’en, Bonfire Night, Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve. We have also reviewed the present continuous, contrasted it with the present simple and used it for arrangements. We have read about these celebrations in the UK, listened to mobile conversation, written a party invitation and practised making arrangements.  

Aim

to introduce an additional material about St. Valentine’s Day that hasn’t been spoken much before.

Introduction.

Teacher to students:

What do you know about St. Valentine’s Day?

Possible answer: not much.

What words could you use to this very holiday?

The words are on the blackboard: carnival, birthday, cake, hearts, cards, valentines, kisses, school trip, party, lots of joy, prize- giving ceremony, secretly.

To show, and explain some new words that we need for St. Valentine’s , drill the pronunciation: clergyman, execute, to marry couples, ancient Rome, to exchange love messages, sentimental verses, exchange.

Listening to the story presented by the teacher about St. Valentine’s Day.

There are many opinions as to who was the original Valentine. One of the most popular theories is that it was a clergyman who was executed for secretly marrying couples in ancient Rome. In any event, in 496 A.D., Pope Gelasius set aside February 14 to honour St. Valentine. Through the centuries, the Christian holiday became a time to exchange love messages and St. Valentine became a patron saint of lovers. In the 1840s, Esther Howland, a native of Massachusetts, is given credit for sending the first Valentine cards. The spirit of love continues as valentines are sent with sentimental verses and children exchange valentine cards at school.

Декорации: летучие мыши, черные вороны, пауки, тыквы-фонари, свечи, черные шторы, луна, звезды.

Цели мероприятия: формирование устойчивого интереса к предмету английский язык и развитие мотивации к его изучению.

   Задача мероприятия:

• воспитать уважительное отношение  не только к родным культуре и традициям, но и к иностранным;

• познакомить с историей Дня всех Святых;

• развивать у детей коммуникативные компетенции;

• развивать устную речь, уважительное отношение друг к другу, умение слушать и слышать друг друга, продолжить формирование творческой инициативы;

• создать условия для самореализации     личности учащихся;

• поддерживать  стремление детей проявлять свои творческие способности в песенных, игровых импровизациях;

Третьеклассники сидят за партами, учитель английского языка  объясняет ученикам новую тему «Глагол to Be».

Один из учеников начинает ужасно себя вести.

Учитель: Как тебе не стыдно, уже 9 лет здесь сидишь, а ума ни на грош не прибавилось…

Учитель: Как ты смеешь! Вон из класса, чтобы здесь духу твоего не было!

Звенит звонок, заходит в класс учитель и садится заполнять журнал. Появляется ученик-маньяк под песню Linkin Park  «Don`t stay»

 и ждёт подходящего момента, чтоб прикончить жертву. Но вдруг появляются его светлая и тёмная сторона под начало песни Danny Elfman  «This Is Halloween».

Дьявол: Смотри, эта та учительница, которая выгнала тебя с позором. Ейнадоотомстить!

(Look, this is the teacher, who kicked you away. You must take it out of her!)

Ангел: Не убивай её! Она же ни в чём не виновата!

(Don`t kill her! She is no ways to blame!)

Ученик-маньяк смотрит на дьявола и кивает головой…

Дьявол: Я знаю что делать, эта работа по мне!

(I know what to do. I can manage this work!)

Дьявол утаскивает жертву под крики «не убивайте меня!» - “Don`t kill me! Don`t kill me, please!” (жертва всеми силами сопротивляется) и раздаётся громкий визг учителя (звук убийства – песня Assassin's creed)

Дьявол приходит счастливый и улыбается…

Ученик-маньяк: Что случилось?! Почему ты улыбаешься?

(What`s happened? Why are you smiling?)

Дьявол: Это не Марья Ивановна! ХА-ХА-ХА! (громко и злостно смеётся) 

(This is not Maria Ivanovna! HA-HA-HA!)

Ученик-маньяк: Будем искать дальше! Я всё равно найду её! (уходит)

Опять звенит звонок, в класс входит учительница. Появляется ученик-маньяк под песню Linkin Park  «Don`t stay» и выжидает удобного случая, чтоб расправится и с этой жертвой. Опять появляется его светлая и тёмная сторона под начало песни Danny Elfman «This Is Halloween».

Ангел: Эту ты не можешь просто так убить, хотя бы потому, что она сумеет дать сдачу.

(You cannot kill her! If for no other reason than because she is able to hit you back!)

Ученик-маньяк: А где дьявол?

(And where is the devil?)

Ангел: Он отлучился по делу…

(He has been away on business.)

Ученик-маньяк (c удивлённым лицом) Чёрт! Придётсявсёделатьсамому!

(Damn! I'll have to do everything myself!)

Ученик-маньяк подходит всё ближе и ближе к учителю, как вдруг учитель оборачивается и спрашивает:

Что тебе нужно? (испуганно)

(What do you need?)

Ученик-маньяк: Я хочу убить тебя! Ты за всё поплатишься! (грозный смех)

[I want to kill you! You'll pay for everything!]

Учитель: Я? Не на того напал, дорогой мой!

(ME? That is a mug's game, baby!)

Учитель избивает маньяка (под песню  Suicide Commando  «Second Death»), тот, бедный, просит о помощи…

Ученик-маньяк: Заберите эту сумасшедшую! АААпомогите!

(Take this crazy teacher away! AAA help me!)

(Входит дьявол)

Дьявол: Я во время…

(I'm in time…)

Дьявол забирает учительницу, та сильно сопротивляется, раздаётся громкий визг учителя (звук убийства – песня Assassin's creed).

Ученик-маньяк: Ненормальная какая-та! Но со мной этот номер не пройдет! Я всё равно найду её, чего бы мне это ни стоило! (Злится)

Дьявол: Разреши мне завершить начатое!

(Let me bring my undertaking to the conclusion!)

Ученик-маньяк: Нет, я сам справлюсь!

(No, I can do that myself!)

Ученик-маньяк подходит всё ближе и ближе к учителю, как вдруг учительница-ведьма замечает маньяка…

Учительница-ведьма: Ты кто?

(Who are you?)

Ученик-маньяк: Я? Я тот, кого вы выгнали и опозорили перед всеми! Теперьвыобэтомпожалеете…

(Me? I`m the pupil, whom you`ve expelled from a lesson and disgraced in front of everybody! Now you willbe sorry for this…)

Со зловещим взглядом и походкой ученик-маньяк приближается к учительнице-ведьме …

Но за нее заступается Ангел…

Ангел: Не трогай ее!

(Don`t touch her!)

Дьявол: Подождите-ка! Что ты тут раскомандовалась? Я сейчас сам покончу со всем!

(Wait! Don`t boss to me! I`ll finish everything myself!)

Учительница-ведьма: Ничего ты мне не сделаешь! Я сама кого угодно вызвать могу!

(You`ll do nothing with me! I can raise everyone myself!)

Шепчет заклинание, после чего под песню Lux Aeterna «The two towers trailer»  появляются два приведения и уносят дьявола под крики  «Как вы смеете! Вы даже не понимаете с кем связались!»

 (How dare you! You don`t even imagine whom you get in touch with!) (раздаётся звук убийства – песня Assassin's creed).

Учительница-ведьма: С дьяволом, наконец-то, покончено!

(At last we settled devil's hash!)

Ученик-маньяк: Ты пожалеешь об этом! (злится)

(You will be sorry for this!)

Ученик-маньяк подходит ближе к учительнице-ведьме, она падает в обморок в руки ученика-маньяка.

Ученик-маньяк: И что мне теперь делать?!

(What shall I do now?)

Ангел: Ейнужнопомочь!

(You must help her!)

Ученик-маньяк сажает  учительницу-ведьму на стул, та делает вид, что без сознания. Когда ученик-маньяк отворачивается, учительница-ведьма ударяет его по голове большим и острым предметом. Ученик-маньяк падает и теряет память.

Учительница-ведьма: Наконец-то! Мне удалось, победить этого проклятого маньяка! (радостно)

(At last I`ve been successful in the battle with the devil!)

Ученик-маньяк просыпается и видит перед собой ангела и учительницу-ведьму.

How do people decorate their houses? Most people decorate their houses with brightly- coloured paper or holly and they usually have a Christmas tree.

Where do people put the presents? Family members wrap up their gifts and leave them at the bottom of the Christmas tree to be found on Christmas morning. Children leave a long stocking at the end of their beds on Christmas Eve hoping that Father Christmas will bring them small presents, fruit and nuts.

What is traditional Christmas food? Usually people have a big turkey and Christmas pudding for dinner.

What are traditional Christmas colours? Traditional Christmas colours are green and red.

Is New Year as widely celebrated as Christmas in Great Britain? No, it isn’t. Some people even ignore it.

Do you know any traditions connected with the New Year? There is a funny tradition connected with the New Year: the First Foot. This is the first visitor to enter a house on New Year’s morning. He is a person of great importance. The First Foot must be a man because it is believed that a woman brings bad luck. He must carry food, drink and coal into the house.

P1 - Writing the New Year Resolutions is another tradition. Many people make such resolutions: they promise themselves to improve their business and health. Schoolchildren decide to do their best to study and obey their parents and teachers.

P2 - Parents plan to work harder too. They also plan to save money, to give up smoking or drinking, to drive more carefully and so on. Let us make some of them. Each member of every team should write a resolution and fold the sheet of paper.

P1 - The team that will write more resolutions in 5 minutes and won’t repeat them will be the winner.

P2 - OK. We hope you will improve your life next year. And now it’s time to play and check your reaction. The game is called “True and false”.

P1 - There are two chairs: one is “true” and the other is “false”. You will hear some statements and if it is true you will have to sit down on the “true” chair.
