Использование стратегии "Think-aloud" в обучении чтению на уроке английского языка

Think-aloud strategy is a way for learners to test their reading comprehension and process what they have read.

1. T selects the reading passage with a title and has Ss make predictions about a reading passage based on the current knowledge.

2. T reads the text to the students, and as they follow along, they are to underline the key words from the text.

3. T elicits from the Ss if their predictions are right/wrong.

4. Ss share as a class which key words or key vocabulary they consider the most important to comprehend the text.

5. Ss go online https://wordsift.org/ and find their own graphic representations of key words and key vocabulary of the reading.

6. Then Ss are handed out the graphic organizes that helps them organize information which has been just read.

7. Using the key words as a guide, Ss in pairs reconstruct or retell the reading with the key words and main ideas.

8. Finally, after reading/organizing/reviewing/sequencing and talking aloud, Ss are given the sentence frames with the key vocabulary that would help them produce a summary of the reading.

I think this kind of activity will work out well with mixed abilities students. When we plan some reading lessons, we should focus on practicing all four skills not just reading.
