The St. George ribbon is bicolor of orange and black colors

It traces its history from the ribbon to the soldier's order of St. George, established on November 26, 1769 by Empress Catherine II

This ribbon, with minor changes, entered the USSR's award system as the "Guards ribbon" - a sign of special distinction for a soldier. It covers the pad of a very honorable "soldier's" order of Glory.

Эта лента с небольшими изменениями вошла в наградную систему СССР как "Гвардейская лента" - знак особого отличия солдата. Ею обтянута колодка очень почетного «солдатского » ордена Славы.

The black color of the ribbon means smoke, and the orange color means flame

Черный цвет ленты означает дым, а оранжевый - пламя

The St. George ribbon campaign started in 2005 and was dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the great victory. For 5 years, the campaign has gained unprecedented momentum. Every year, more and more state and commercial organizations in 30 countries participate in it.

Акция «Георгиевская ленточка» начала своё существование в 2005 году и была приурочена к 60-летию Великой победы. За 5 лет акция набрала беспрецедентные обороты. С каждым годом в ней участвует всё больше и больше как государственных, так и коммерческих организаций в 30 странах мира.

The purpose of creation of such symbols was the urge to preserve for present and future generations the memory of the terrible years of the war, about those people, who through their hard work and fortitude gained this Victory, on the 27 millions of Soviet citizens who gave their lives for the sake of the country and freedom for future generations.
