• Расширить понятийную базу учащихся за счет включения в нее новых элементов–понятие « идиома », происхождение  идиом , алгоритм перевода  идиом . 
• Закрепить умения сравнивать, анализировать (фразеологизмы в русском и английском языках);
• Активизировать словарь учащихся

• Воспитывать уважительное отношение к иноязычной культуре.
• Воспитывать интерес к разнообразию английского языка и к его художественным выразительным возможностям.
• Воспитывать культуру общения при групповой работе.

Idioms

• An idiom is a phrase, saying, or a group of words with a metaphorical (not literal) meaning, which has become accepted in common usage.
• An idiom’s symbolic sense is quite different from the literal meaning or definition of the words of which it is made. There are a large number of Idioms, and they are used very commonly in all languages. There are estimated to be at least 25,000 idiomatic expressions in the English language.

A whale of a time

• exceptionally large of something
• great amount of something often unusually done
• It can be referred to anything that has been big, even fun time.

• A Whale of something is to mean big of something, based on the size of the Whale .

• That birthday party was super fun, all the children had a whale of a time there.
• The story book was a whale of fun.
• In Bollywood they generally make a whale of a movie. It encompasses song and dance sequences too.
• To say no to this party would be to refuse a whale of time. It has amongst the best food and drinks in the region.
• How could she have such a whale of a time at the movies when her son is so far away?

• This phrase originated in America in the early 1900s.

• When the retiring teacher received many messages from his former students, he was  tickled pink  that they still remembered him and cared to send him their wishes.

Over the moon

• Meaning:
• extremely pleased or happy
• delighted
• in a state of great happiness

Over the moon

• Origin: The earliest reference to this phrase in print is from Charles Molloy’s “The Coquet, or, The English Chevalier”, in 1718. However, it became a popular one since the 1970s, when English football managers started using it after winning matches.
