T 1: Dear guests, we greet you at our cultural event devoted to the beautiful places on the Earth Scotland and Northern Caucasus with Karachay-Cherkes Republic. A lot of places as in Scotland so in Karachay-Cherkes Republic are natural paradise still untouched by the man.

T 2: Dear friends, 2014 officially declared the Russian-British cross the Year of Culture. And as you know UK consists of four parts – Scotland, Wales, England and Northern Ireland and today we make a tour to one of these countries namely Scotland and compare it with our Karachay-Cherkes Republic. You can hear the beautiful sounds of Scottish bagpipe and national harmony, hear the melodious Scottish songs and mountain music, and of course see the national dances.

Student2: Karachay-Cherkes Republic is one of the most beautiful places of the northern Caucasus where evergreen forests are neighbor to glaciers mountain streams and waterfalls and the largest skiing and health resorts.

The song Elbrus sounds

Student 3: The capital of Scotland is called Edinburgh. It is known as the Athens of the north. It is an ancient city. Edinburgh has many castles. Scotland is the land of myths and mysteries and every castle has its ghost.

Student 4: But of course we want tо say about our magnificent Alanian temples which are located on the territory of the Karachay-Cherkessia Republic. In the 13-th century the inhabitants of Alania are the mixture of Christians and pagans. They fight endless wars, prince against prince, a borough against borough. The fighting towers of Karachay-Cherkessia belong to the period of feudal disintegration of Alania. They were constructed before mongol-tatar invasion.

Student 5: Scotland is associated with the names of George Gordon Byron, Robert Louis Stevenson, Arthur Conan Doyle, a creator of Sherlock Holmes and the famous Scottish poet Robert Burns. He wrote many beautiful poems about nature of this country.

Let’s listen the famous poem «The Highlands» written by this greatest poet.

My heart's in the Highlands, my heart is not here,

My heart's in the Highlands, a-chasing the deer;

Chasing the wild-deer, and following the roe,

My heart's in the Highlands, wherever I go.

Farewell to the Highlands, farewell to the North,

The birth-place of Valour, the country of Worth ;

Wherever I wander, wherever I rove,

The hills of the Highlands forever I love.

Farewell to the mountains, high-cover'd with snow,

Farewell to the straths and green vallies below;

Farewell to the forests and wild-hanging woods,

Farewell to the torrents and loud-pouring floods.

My heart's in the Highlands, my heart is not here,

My heart's in the Highlands, a-chasing the deer;

Chasing the wild-deer, and following the roe,

My heart's in the Highlands, wherever I go.

Student 6: The history, ethnography folklore and languages of the Caucasian mountain people have always interested scholars and authors in Europe and in Russia. Byron, Pushkin and Leo Tolstoy wrote about The Caucasus and about its people Lermontov whose 200th birthday we celebrated nowadays also loved the Caucasus mountains and wrote beautiful verses about them (стих"although at the time")

Although at the time of my life's very dawn.

O great southern mountains. Fate wrenched me away,

To remember you always

needs only one stay:

The Caucasus, like a sweet song of my

home.

I love to this day.

Student 7: We see that you are interested in the history and culture of Scotland and Caucasus (with Karachay-Cherkes Republic ) and now some minutes for relax with a beautiful Scottish song - My Bonnie lies over the ocean.

Let’s sing a nice Scottish song « My Bonny Lies Over the Ocean»

My Bonny Lies Over the Ocean»

My Bonnie lies over the ocean
My Bonnie lies over the sea
My Bonnie lies over the ocean
Oh bring back my Bonnie to me

Bring back, bring back
Bring back my Bonnie to me, to me 3
Bring back, bring back
Bring back my Bonnie to me

Last night as I lay on my pillow
Last night as I lay on my bed
Last night as I lay on my pillow
I dreamed that my Bonnie was dead

Bring back, bring back
Bring back my Bonnie to me, to me
Bring back, bring back
Bring back my Bonnie to me
Oh blow ye the winds o'er the ocean
And blow ye the winds o'er the sea
Oh blow ye the winds o'er the ocean
And bring back my Bonnie to me

Bring back, bring back
Bring back my Bonnie to me, to me
Bring back, bring back
Bring back my Bonnie to me

The winds have blown over the ocean
The winds have blown over the sea
The winds have blown over the ocean
And brought back my Bonnie to me.

Student 8: So , we'd like to tell you about some symbols of Scotland. First of all it's a special kind of material called "tartan". they make traditional tartan skirt called kilts. Many men and women wear them on special occasions on national holidays. Each clan or family has its own tartan. There are many tartan shops in Edinburgn, but they are very expensive and now a dance in these national kilts.

Student 9: As the people in Scotland have their tradional clothes, so people of our Republic have rather intresting and beautiful clothes for men and women. And you can see a national dance of the people of Karachay-Cherkes Republic.

Student 10: The bagpipe was probably introduced into Britain by the Romans. Bagpipes have been used in most European countries. Now bagpipes can be seen and heard only in Scotland, in the northern countries of England & in Ireland. In Scotland the bagpipe was first recorded in the 15 century during the reign of James 1, who was a very good player and probably did much to make it popular. For a long it has been considered to be a national Scottish instrument. The old Highland clans used to go into battles to the sound of the bagpipes .4

Student 11: Melody of the national instruments of the Karachay-Cherkessia republic fascinate us and we like them very much.

T 2: So, we think you have never been in Scotland, but we`ve made an interesting and exciting tour about it. We`ve watched some beautiful sightseeing of this country, learnt much interesting about it, compared Scotland with our native Republic.

T 1: And our event is coming to the end. Let’s finish it with the song "For auld Lang Syne",

Composed by Robert Burns. The most important problem of nowadays is learning foreign languages. They are needed as the main efficient means of communication in science, technology, literature, music, business and international tourism. I hope that every student in our college will study hard, and do all the best to speak English fluently.

T 2: We wish you good luck and success!

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,

And never brought to mind?

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,

And days of auld lang syne!

CHORUS:

For auld lang syne, my dear,

For auld lang syne,

We'll tak a cup of kindness yet,

For auld lang syne!

And surely ye'll be your pint-stowp,

And surely I'll be mine,

And we'll tak a cup o kindness yet,

For auld lang syne!

CHORUS:

For auld lang syne, my dear,

For auld lang syne, 5

We'll tak a cup of kindness yet,

For auld lang syne!
