«History of Valentine’s Day»

Цели: развитие лексических навыков говорения ; знакомство с историей и традициями праздника англичан “St. Valentine’s Day”.
Задачи:
• Обогатить знания учащихся о традициях и обычаях проведения “St. Valentine’s Day”, существующих в англоязычных странах.
• Ознакомление учащихся с социокультурными особенностями культуры и быта Англии.
• Развитие интегративных коммуникативных умений общаться на иностранном языке.
• Развитие умения устного общения.
• Стимулирование интереса учащихся к изучению английского языка.

Воспитательно-образовательные:

• развивать логическое мышление;

• расширить словарный запас;

• развивать устную речь учащихся;

• повысить интерес к изучению английского языка;

• воспитывать уважение к культуре страны изучаемого языка.

Познавательный аспект: 

учащиеся знакомятся с традициями и культурой страны изучаемого языка на основе праздника Дня Святого Валентина (St. Valentine's Day).

Развивающий аспект: 

целенаправленное развитие психических функций, связанных с речевой деятельностью, таких как внимание, способность к анализу и синтезу, логическое мышление, способность к выявлению языковых закономерностей, языковая догадка, зрительная и слуховая память, фонематический слух.

Воспитательный аспект:

 повышение интереса к изучению английского языка, воспитание культуры языкового общения, уважительного отношения друг к другу, умения внимательно слушать собеседника.

Teacher (T): Love! Friendship! Happiness! Affection! Romance!

Today we can say these words because it is an unusual and special day – Saint Valentine’s Day. This happy holiday celebrates friendship, love and romance.

Valentine’s Day is a good time to think of others who are important to us – Moms and Dads, grandparents, sisters and brothers, friends and classmates, teachers.

It’s nice time to tell them how much you like them and how you feel.

To each and every friend of mine

I’ll send a lovely valentine.

Mom, Dad, Sis and Brother, too.

Will receive a heart that says,

“I love you”.

S2: Round is the ring that has no end,

So is my life for you, my friend,

Against do take this in good part,

T: Ladies and Gentlemen! Good evening! It’s lovely to meet you here, at the Valentine’s Party! Today you will get to know why this holiday is celebrated all over the world, there will be a short quiz and we will play fun games.

S1: St. Valentine’s Day is celebrated on the 14th of February.

This day is celebrated in many countries. St. Valentine’s Day has roots in several legends.

S3: Many years ago the Roman Emperor Claudius II needed soldiers, he made a law against

marrying because he felt that marriage made men want to stay at home instead of fighting wars.

S1: He performed a miracle- he cured the jailer’s daughter from her blindness the night before he was executed - but he wrote a letter to the girl, signing it “From your Valentine”.

S1: There are a lot of symbols of St. Valentine’s Day.

One of the early symbols of love is Cupid, the Roman God of Love, who is represented as a young boy with a bow and arrows.

S2: One of the symbols of this day is a red rose.

S3: The heart is the symbol of this day – the sweets are made in the form of heart, in the form of heart the cakes are baked. This day people send small paper hearts – the Valentines cards which always begin with “ I love you…”.

S1: Pigeons are favorite birds of Venus and has long been known as love birds. They do not change the life, and a pair of them care of chicks. These birds are the symbols of true love, care and happiness in marriage.

S2: In Africa, birds of love are colorful parrots. Most of them have a red beak. They are called the birds of love because when they are in pairs, they sit in a very short distance from each other.

S2 : On St. Valentine’s Day boys and girls, sweethearts and lovers, husbands and wives, friends and neighbours will exchange greetings of affection, undying love or satirical comment, called valentine cards.

The messages are signed “From your Valentine” or “Be My Valentine”.

S2: This holiday is the most popular holiday among young people. It is the day of lovers. This day young men and women declare their feelings for each other. Valentine’s Day cards and romantic flowers such as red roses are sent.

S3: People in England send their messages to animals, cats, dogs.

S1: In America this day is not an official holiday, but most Americans like to celebrate it. This holiday Americans give special symbolic gifts ( usually candy or flowers) to people they love. They also send special greeting cards called Valentines to such people.

These days a lot of red roses are sold in America.

S3: In France St. Valentine’s Day is one of the greatest Holiday. This day husbands give their wives jewels.

S1: In Russia this day isn’t an official holiday in our country. It is celebrated only some years. It has come from Europe, but it is very popular among young people. Boys and girls exchange valentine cards and declare their feeling. They make each other presents in the form of a heart and roses.

S2: There is a country where it is forbidden to celebrate this holiday. It is Saudi Arabia. If people don’t fоllow the law they have to pay fines.

S3: The people are observing a custom that began more than 2000 years ago.

T: Dear boys and girls, thank you very much for an interesting story about the history, traditions and symbols of St. Valentine’s Day. I think you’ve got to know a lot of interesting information about this holiday. Let’s have a competition on the subject of this holiday. You are going to have several tasks.

1. Guess what it means/what it is.

6. The most romantic present which we can smell that is given to girl on St. Valentine’s Day. (Red Roses)

7. Something that is written on valentine cards and addressed to a boy or a girl (A poem)

2. Make a broken heart

Find two similar halves of the broken hearts. On one half of the broken heart there is a question about St. Valentine’s Day. On the other half there is an answer to it.

Учащиеся получают разрезанные зигзагом на 2 половинки сердечки из бумаги. На одной половинке написан вопрос, на другой-ответ.

Учитель до проведения конкурса прячет в зале, где проводится конкурс, маленькие бумажные сердечки. Кто соберет больше сердец в отведенное для этого время, тот будет победителем в этом конкурсе.

T: I’ve hidden small red paper hearts around this room. The team that finds the most will win this task.

4. Unscramble the words

Всем командам даётся одно и то же задание: расшифруйте слова из списка слов, написанного на сердце.

T: Each team will be given a heart, on which the word list is written.

Unscramble the words from the word list. The team that will be able to do it the first and without mistakes, will be the winner of this task.

4. Игра «Валентин и Валентина». Для игры понадобятся бумажные сердечки, количество которых равно половине количества участников данного конкурса. Сердечки разрезаются на 2 части зигзагообразной линией и перемешиваются и перемешиваются. Не должно быть двух одинаковых сердец. Каждый участник получает половинку сердца. По сигналу ведущего начинается поиск пары, у которой есть вторая соответствующая половинка сердца. Когда два игрока найдут свои половинки, они выстраиваются в линию. T: Each of you is going to get half of a heart. At the starting signal try to find the person who has the matching piece. When two players have made a match they line up. The first three pairs of players to line up will be the winners of this contest.

5. Valentine’s symbols.

Следующее задание связано с символами праздника «День Святого Валентина». Каждая команда получает карточки – сердечки, на которых написаны определения некоторых символов этого праздника. Догадайтесь, о каком символе идет речь, за 2-3 минуты.

T: Each team will be given a paper heart with the definitions of some Valentine’s symbols. Guess what words are hidden in the following definitions. Three minutes are given for you to guess.

• This symbol has no beginning and no end. It consists of graceful loops (петли), sometimes in the form of hearts. It means true love.

• This symbol of a red or pink colour, pierced (пронзенное) with an arrow, denotes eternal (вечную) love. It is the most popular symbol of the holiday of love and romance.

(a heart)

• This symbol means that a person is tied up. It says “You are tied up” or “You are my girl”.

(a ribbon)

• This Roman god of love with a bow and an arrow is a symbol of passionate (страстной), tender or playful love. When his arrow hits your heart, you’ll fall in love with someone.

(Cupid)

• This thing symbolized a net for catching a lover’s heart. This ornament decorates valentine’s cards. If you get a valentine with it, it means that the person who has sent it passionately (страстно) in love with you.

• The most romantic symbol of love that is given as a present on Valentine’s Day

1. Задание «Комплименты». От каждой команды участвуют по 2 человека: мальчик и девочка. Они стоят напротив друг друга на расстоянии 10 шагов. На каждый шаг они делают друг другу комплименты, пока не встретятся. Побеждает пара, которая без пауз произнесла все комплименты друг другу и не ошиблась.

T: A pair, consisting of a boy and a girl from each team, can take part in this contest. You should stand face to face at a distance of ten steps. You have to go to each other in turn and compliment each other. For example: “You are very pretty”, “You are very brave”, “you always look wonderful and so on”.

Затем слово предоставляется жюри, которое объявляет команды-победительницы и самых активных из участников. Им вручаются дипломы и подарки. Ведущий учитель подводит итоги конкурса:
