• How are you today?

• We are fine, thank you. And how are you?

• I'm OK, thank you. Sit down, please. Today we shall have a talk about very important things, find out how to solve ecological problems and help our environment. Then you will write a Green Party Manifesto giving your proposals for an environmentally-friendly lifestyle in our area. Let’s start our work.

Open your textbooks on page 110. Think about the area you live in and answer these questions.

• What are the most well-known ecological threats?

Students’ answers:

river pollution, oceans pollution, lakes pollution, global warming, ecological balance damage, acid rain, land pollution, plant and animal life extinction, deforestation, air pollution, energy shortage, human and industrial waste, etc.

• Are the people in your area environmentally conscious? (Yes, they are. /No, they are not.)

• Why do you think so? What does it mean - “environmentally conscious”? Imagine: spring... the snow is melting... and we have to look at litter dropped everywhere... Well, are the people in your area environmentally conscious? It's a question!..

• And now it's time to practise today's vocabulary. Let's remember some verbs. Look at the board, read the following word combinations aloud, translate them and mark them “+” or “–“according to what kind of effect they have on the environment.

• Let's have a rest, students. Look at the board and follow the leaves, please.

• Last time you worked in groups and shared ideas with your partners preparing presentations. I want you to present your works. Are you ready? The first group, come here. And you, students, listen to your classmates carefully and be ready to ask them your questions.

• Now let's discuss your presentations. Whose one is the most interesting? Rich in content? Informative? Useful?

Your home task is exercise 114 page 113. In groups you will write a Green Party Manifesto giving your proposals for an environmentally-friendly lifestyle in our area. Open page 113 and read the task. Can you give a definition what a manifesto is?

You may speak Russian. Now look at the board, read and translate it. Write down the definition.

There is a big problem in our place – our pets, dogs. Who has got a dog? Do you walk your dog? Every day? When did you clean up after your dog last time? Never? OK! Look! Some very simple actions and everyone will tell thanks...

Students, how can we lessen our impact on the environment?

don't drop litter

walk or cycle instead of driving car

bring cans, bottles, etc. to the local recycling center

only buy things you really need

avoid buying packaged goods

avoid environmental damage

reduce population consumption

make ecologically-conscious decisions

do concrete actions etc.
