Buryatia and its capital

I’m from Buryatia, Russia. My republic is mostly mountainous. Its highest peak is Munku-Sardyk. There is hardly a place in Russia where such a variety of scenery can be found. There are mountains and steppes, forests and lakes, mountain rivers and, of course, world famous lake Baikal.

The Baikal has always been a romantic place to rest. The willing of people of travelling to the lake becomes true all the year round. They visit this marvelous place in winter and summer, in spring and autumn.

The climate in the republic is extreme continental. Winters are very cold, summers are hot with few rains.

The taiga is endless. There is a great variety of trees and animals there.

The rivers of Buryatia are wonderful. The longest rivers are the Selenga, the Barguzin and others. The only river the Angara doesn’t run into the Baikal. It runs into the Yenisey.

The population of Buryatia is multinational. The capital of Buryatia is Ulan-Ude. It is a cultural, political and industrial centre of East Siberia.
