Geography Northern Ireland is a part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It is situated in the northeast of island of Ireland.

Lough Neagh Lakes in Northern Ireland are called  loughs . There are three  loughs  in Northern Ireland including the largest lake in the UK, Lough Neagh.

Giant’s Causeway Giant’s Causeway is one of the most popular attractions in the country.  It is a region of 40,000 basalt columns. Legend says the Causeway was built by an Irish Giant.

SYMBOLS  SHAMROCK   The shamrock is the symbol of Northern Ireland. It is connected to St. Patric, who brought Christianity to Ireland. He used the shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity.

SYMBOLS  The RED HAND According to the myth, two Vikings had a competition - the first who would reach the shore of the land would be the king. One competitor so much desired the country that when he saw that he was loosing the race, he cut his hand, threw it to the shore and won. The hand is red because it was covered with blood.

The CAPITAL Belfast is the capital of Northern Ireland. It began in the early 17th century when Sir Arthur Chichester was granted land in Ulster including Belfast Castle. A small town soon grew up in its shadow.

LEPRECHAUNs Leprechauns are shoemakers. People say they hide their gold coins in a pot at the end of the rainbow. If you catch a leprechaun he must grant you three wishes in exchange for his freedom.  but BEWARE of Leprechauns - they like to play tricks on people!
