Sam, the pet tarantula.

Tom Smith lives in England. He is fifteen. He has got one strange pet. He has got a two-year –old tarantula called Sam. The tarantula is a very big hairy spider. These spiders live in South America, Africa and Asia. They eat lizards, mice, insects and small birds. In the wild tarantulas live about twenty-five years.

Tom keeps his pet in an aquarium . He feeds Sam on worms from the garden but in winter he has to buy them from a fishing shop. The spider eats two worms a day.

Tarantulas are poisonous. Their bites can be painful to people but they aren`t dangerous. Because Sam is still young, his poisons aren`t very strong.
