He was born in 1947, and was called Reginald Kenneth Dwight. He changed his name to Elton John in 1966. He could play the piano when he was four. When he was eleven, he went to the Royal Academy of Music. He joined his first band "Bluesology" in 1961. He gave his first American concert in August 1970, in Los Angeles. He wrote "Candle in the Wind" in 1973 and rewrote it in 1997 when Princess Diana died. Elton John also wrote the songs for "The Lion King" in 1994.He performed in Saint Petersburg and Moscow with great success. Elton John's songs are still very popular today. He is one of the richest singers in the world and he's famous for the colourful costumes he wears on stage. Today Elton John continues performing. He has sold 250 million albums. MIKHAIL LOMONOSOV (1711—1765) Mikhail Lomonosov is the father of the Russian science, an outstanding poet, the founder of Russian literature. Mikhail Lomonosov was born in 1711 in Arkhangelsk province. He liked to spend his free tune fishing with his father. He began to read himself when he was a little boy. He wanted to study and when he was 19 he went on foot to Moscow. He decided to enter the Slavic-Greek-Latin Academy. He entered it and 6 years later in 1736 he was sent abroad to complete his studies in chemistry and mining. Lomonosov became the first Russian professor of chemistry in 1745. Lomonosov was a poet, a physicist, a painter, an astronomer, a geographer, a historian and a statesman. He founded the first chemical laboratory in 1748. Mikhail Lomonosov made a telescope. He observed a lot of stars and planets with his telescope. Lomonosov wrote the first scientific grammar of the Russian language. He wrote many poems. In 1755, he founded Moscow State University. Mikhail Lomonosov built a factory near St Petersburg. It was the factory, where glass was produced. Mikhail Lomonosov was the founder of the first Russian University. This University is named after Lomonosov and it is situated in Moscow. In 1765, Lomonosov caught a cold and died at the age of 54.
