Teacher. Good morning, everybody!
Students. Good morning
Teacher. Nice to see you. I hope you are all feeling good today.
S t u d e n t s. We are OK. Thank you.
Teacher. Today we are going on to read and speak about popular sports and sportsmen in Britain. You will also learn what sports are popular with British teenagers.
Teacher. Some of your classmates prepared crosswords on the topic "Sports and Games". Let's do the crossword all together. Кроссворд должен быть заранее нарисован на доске или ватмане.
Teacher. Open your books at page 117, please. Look at the picture, read the text and say what sport it is about. Fill in the gap in the text.
Учащиеся читают текст и высказывают свои предположения. Учащиеся могут воспользоваться словарем, если они не знают название данного вида спорта по-английски (hiking).
Teacher. Is hiking popular in Russia? Are you and your friends or parents fond of hiking?
Учащиеся могут кратко рассказать, где пролегал их маршрут и как долго длился их поход.
Teacher. In Britain there are a lot of advertisements that invite people to spend their free time outdoors. Look at the picture on page 118 and answer the questions.
Учащиеся отвечают на вопросы в учебнике.
Teacher. Which of these sports — hiking or pony-trekking - is more popular? Why?
Учащиеся отвечают на вопрос, используя речевые образцы. Student 1. I'm not sure. Hiking might be more popular than pony-trekking because it doesn't cost much.
Student 2. Pony-trekking may be more popular than hiking because it's more interesting and it's the best way of seeing Britain, etc. Teacher. What similar sports are there in Russia? Student 3. The similar sport to pony-trekking is horse riding.
Teacher. The Sydney Olympic Games were very successful for Britain. Why were the Sydney Games so successful?
Учащиеся высказывают свои предположения. Если учащиеся затрудняются высказать предположения, можно предложить им другой вариант упражнения:
Teacher. Choose a statement which may be the right answer.
The British Olympic team was the most numerous one.
The British sportsmen set many Olympic and World records.
The British sportsmen and sportswomen won a lot of medals.
They had the most fashionable clothes.
They had a great success with the audience.
Teacher. Read about the Games to check your suggestions. Fill in the table.
