Sarykum

Sarykum-literally means yellow sand, is the largest sand dune in Eurasia, located in the Kumtorkalinsky district in Dagestan, Russian Federation. It is one of the largest sand dunes in Eurasia.

The length of Sary-Kum is twelve kilometers, the width is four kilometers, and the height is an impressive two hundred and fifty meters .

The world learned about the existence of the dune in the nineteenth century, when the famous French writer Alexandre Dumas-father, who visited Dagestan and visited the city of Torkali in 1850 in the book "The Caucasus from Prometheus to Shamil", described its beauty .

The sand was brought here by water more than ten thousand years go. Even if you have never been to Sarykum, the fantastic landscape is familiar to you from the film "White Sun of the Desert", which was filmed here.
