definition
Integrated circuit — electronic circuit of arbitrary complexity, made on a semiconductor substrate and placed in a sealed housing or without, in the case of joining microbore
7 may 1952, the British radio engineer Geoffrey Dummer first put forward the idea of combining a variety of standard electronic components in a monolithic semiconductor crystal
a few years later
At the end of 1958 and the first half of 1959 in the semiconductor industry held breakthrough
Jack Kilby of Texas Instruments patented the principle of Association, created the first imperfect prototypes for EC and brought them to series production
Kurt Lehovec of Sprague Electric Company invented a method of electrical insulation components formed on a single semiconductor crystal (isolation p-n-transition )
Robert Noyce of Fairchild Semiconductor invented a method of electrical connection of the components of IP (metal aluminum) and proposed an improved version of insulation components
27 September 1960, a group of Jay last at Fairchild created the first workable Semiconductor semiconductor IP according to the ideas of Noyce and Ernie. Texas Instruments, who owned the patent for Kilby's invention, started a patent against competitors war, which ended in 1966 settlement agreement on cross-licensing of technologies.
now integrated circuits are used everywhere
classification
- Depending on the degree of integration apply the following names of integrated circuits:
- a small integrated circuit (MIS) — up to 100 elements in the crystal,
- average integrated circuit (SIS) — up to 1000 elements in crystal,
- a large integrated circuit (BIS) — up to 10 thousand items in the crystal,
- verbally integrated circuits (VLSI) — more than 10 thousand elements in the crystal.
An integrated circuit may have finished, arbitrarily complex functionality, up to a microcomputer (single chip microcomputer).
Оn integrated circuits it is possible to speak long, long time, so it presented only a small fraction of the information
