The excursion to the Museum of local lore of Kurgan

We visited the Museum of local lore of Kurgan in October. It was very interesting to learn new information about different animals and birds of our region. What did we learn about them?

The boar

It is quite a large animal. It is the ancestor of a domestic pig. It is active in the daytime and it has a rest at night. It lives in deciduous and mixed forests. It eats seeds, tubers, nuts, small animals.

The fox

It hunts during the day, but it often hunts in the twilight . It eats rodents, hares, birds, insects, berries. Foxes are good parents. The males take care of its females and its offsprings.

The wolf

It is strong and movable animal. It runs 20-25 kilometers in day. It is active at night. It eats rodents, carrion, plant food. It spreads in all places, but it is rare in the South of the European part of Russia.

The elk

It is the biggest animal out of all the reindeers. It lives in deciduous forests. It eats leaves of willows, birches, rowan-trees, aspens, pines. It can run at a trot for a long time. It lives 20-25 years old.

The roe

It lives in open forests with wide glades. It is active at any time, but in summer it has a rest in a hot day. It is very careful and shy. It eats grass, berries, mushrooms. In winter it eats branches, kidneys, dry leaves of trees.

The lynx

It is quite a large animal. It lives single, it climbs trees well, it swims well. It eats hares, voles, young elks and other animals. It settles in old thick forests .

The hair

It is not a big animal. It has a valuable fur. It lives in places where there is a lot of food. It settles in mixed and deciduous forests. It eats mushrooms, small branches of shrubs, the bark of trees.

The owl

It is a night bird. It hunts at night and it sleeps during the day. It makes frightening sounds. It eats mice, insects, other birds. Although a few species specialize on the hunt for fish. It lives in hollows and nests.

The capercaillie

This is beautiful and majestic bird. It flies hard and noisy. In summer and in autumn it eats different berries, leaves of the aspen. In winter it eats cedar and pine needles. It lives in coniferous and mixed forests .
