U2 The World’s Biggest Band.

In 1978 four friends at a high school in Dublin won a local music competition. Eighteen months later, in September 1979, they released their first record. It was a big hit. Today, the Irish rock band U2 are of the most successful ‘supergroups’ of all time. Thanks to songs like With or without you and I still haven’t found what I’m looking for, they are famous all over the world.

They have sold more than 100 million albums worldwide. They have performed in front of millions of people and their live concerts are always a huge success. They have won numerous music awards, including 14 Grammy awards. They have also written songs for several Hollywood films, for example, Batman Forever, Goldeneye and Mission Impossible 2.

Their lead singer is Paul Hewson, known as Bono. Q magazine has called him ‘the most powerful man in music’. Bono has used his fame to campaign for international human rights and to fight AIDS in Africa.
