10. Mass Media

  1. In this picture I can see аn old man in the centre. This is a veteran. In the background there is a part of the Kremlin wall. So I’m sure the action is taking place in Red Square, Moscow. I think it is Victory Day that is celebrated by the Russians on the 9th of May. On the left I can see a reporter who is interviewing the veteran. The veteran has a military uniform and a cap on. There are a lot of orders and medals on his jacket. The veteran looks like a real hero who loves his country very much. In my opinion this picture is very patriotic. I am proud of the heroic past of my Motherland.

  1. Mass Media plays a very great role in modern life. The most important means of media are radio, television, newspapers, magazines and the Internet. The main source of news for millions of people is television. People like TV news because they can see everything with their own eyes. And that's an important advantage. Still, many people prefer radio. It's good to listen to it in the car, or in the open air, or when you do something about the house. Newspapers don't react to events as quickly as TV, but they usually provide us with extra details, comments and background information.

  1. As for the Internet, there are “for” and “against” using computers. On the one hand, they are bad for our eyes. Also people get dependence on them. On the other hand, the Internet makes our life easier. E-mail helps in communication, saving time and money.

  1. My favourite media resource is the Internet. If I want to get some information or prepare for the lessons, I address the Internet. When I want to listen to music or to watch a new film, I switch on my computer. Computer helps me in my studying and relaxation.

11. Television

  1. In this picture I can see а man sitting in the arm-chair in the centre of the room. He is watching a TV program. The man is a middle-aged person with dark curly hair. He has a grey suit and a blue shirt on; he also has a tie and a watch on his left hand. In his right hand he has a remote to choose the program he wants. In the background there is a big window and I can see another house. I think he likes watching sports programmes very much as I see an advertisement on the screen. As for me, I like watching sports on TV.

  1. People started experimenting with television in the 19th century. In England in 1878 John Loggie Baird made the first TV picture visible. Many years ago television was only in black and white; you could not buy a color television until 1953.Vladimir Zworykin optimized television with the help of Kinescope.

  1. Many teenagers in Russia like to spend their free time with TV. They watch soup operas, entertaining programmes. Television helps us to "travel" all over the world and to "meet" different people, get news, listen to music and so on. Schoolchildren can learn geography, biology by watching TV programmes such as "The World of Animals".

  1. As for me, I like to watch different programmes: for learning, entertaining. I also like watching horror films, soup operas, cartoons.
