P1.  Good afternoon, dear friends!

P 2.  We are glad to see you at our Thanksgiving party! (слайд 1)

В. 1. This holiday is celebrated only in America. But as language learners we should know the history of the country of the target language.(слайд 2)

P.2.  Today we shall tell you much interesting about the history of Thanksgiving Day. Please, be very attentive. The information will be useful for you in the contest following. Do you know the story оf the first Thanksgiving Day? ( слайд 3)

P. 1. Let me to tell about it. There is one day a year when all Americans stay home with their families and eat a big dinner. This is Thanksgiving day. The pilgrims celebrated the first Thanksgiving day in the fall of 1621. The pilgrims sailed to America from Plymouth, England, in September 1620. (слайд 4)

P. 2. They came to America for religious freedom. The name of the their ship was the “ Mayflower”. They landed at Plymouth Rock, in what is now the state of Massachusetts in December, 1620.

P.1. At first, the passengers enjoyed good weather at sea. But soon, strong winds and fierce storms developed. Our ship, the “Mayflower” began to shake and leak. Finally, one of the main beams broke. Some of the passengers and sailors were afraid the ship couldn’t cross the ocean. They wanted to return to England. (слайд 5)

(На сцене появляется корабль пилгримцев под музыкой и шум волн, чаек. Пилгримцы поднимают руки вверх и молятся «Our God! Help and save us»).

P.1. But other felt confident. “If we do not use all the sails, and if we repair the main beam, we will not sink”, they promised. So everyone put this trust in God, and they all decided to continue. After a long struggle with the sea, the “Mayflower” came to the land. What a joy the pilgrims had when they realized where they were

P.2.(6) There were people living in America before the pilgrims arrived. These people were Native American Indians. The Indians began setting in America about 25,000 years ago. They hunted, fished, and famed to survive. There were many groups, or tribes, and each had its own customs and beliefs. (слайд 6)

P. 1. The pilgrim first winter in the New World was difficult. They had arrived too late to grow many crops. Without fresh food, half of the pilgrims died. The following spring the Indians taught the pilgrims how to hunt, fish, plant, and survive in America. The crops did well, and in the fall of 1621 the pilgrims had a great harvest. They were thankful and decided to celebrate with a Thanksgiving feast. (слайд 7,8)

P.2. They prepared a dinner of turkey, corn, beans, and pumpkins. They invited their Indian friends to share this feast. The Indians brought food to the feast, too ( they even brought popcorn). ( слайд 9)

P.1. Americans still celebrate Thanksgiving Day in the fall. It is celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November. Turkey is still the main dish and pumpkin pie is the most popular dessert. Now let me to introduce the symbols of Thanksgiving Day. Turkey, corn (or maize), pumpkins and cranberry sauce are symbols which represent the first Thanksgiving. Now all of these symbols are drawn on holiday decorations and greeting cards. (слайд 10)
