Pavel Bazhov (1879 – 1950)

• Writer;
• Born in Sysert;
• Worked in Yekaterinburg and Kamyshlov;
• Wrote a collection of fairy tales called The Malachite Casket based on Ural Folklore

Alexander Popov (1859 – 1905)

• Scientist and inventor;
• Worked in Yekaterinburg and Perm;
• Was the first to communicate messages by radio waves.

Igor Kurchatov (1903 – 1960)

• Nuclear physicist;
• Born in Chelyabinsk Oblast;
• Lived and worked in Leningrad and Moscow;
• Developed the nuclear weapons program, later worked for peaceful development of nuclear technology

Mikhail Kalashnikov (1919 – 2013)

• Engineer and inventor;
• Lived and worked in Izhevsk;
• Developed the AK-47 assault rifle and its modifications, AKM and AK-74, all famous for their reliability.
