The early childhood educator belongs to a group of professionals that has strong leadership, a proud history, a code of ethics, regulatory organizations, and other professional attributes. “I’m not a babysitter” is the proud cry of early childhood educators, whether they work in child care programs for young children, public school programs, or other kinds of programs.

Preschool teachers need to love children, be patient, and have a nurturing personality. Their main goal is to participate in a child's growth and development, learn to understand and help their students, and to use a child's natural curiosity to develop a learning plan that is developmentally appropriate. Preschool teachers need to create an atmosphere where risks can be taken and discoveries can be made all while maintaining a child safe environment.

To become an early childhood professional, you will need education and training to provide you with necessary skills, vocabulary, and concepts, but to enter the field of early childhood education, you will also need to know something about its history. Because history is an important part of being socializes into profession.
