An American Holiday Fourth of July

An American Holiday

Fourth of July

The United States of America celebrates its independence on July 4. The United States used to be a colony go Great Britain, but on July 4, 1776, American politicians approved the “Declaration of Independence.” They are called the Founding Fathers. Americans never say Independence Day. They just call this holiday the Fourth of July. On Independence Day, my town has a parade in the morning. My family always watches the parade. There are many cars and trucks in the parade. Students ride in the back of a truck and play music. Many people walk in the parade too. Neighbors usually walk together. They wave American flags and sing songs. The American National Anthem is called “The Star Spangled Banner.” In the afternoon, many people go to picnics and barbecues. They often eat hot dogs, hamburgers, corn on the cob, baked beans, and ice-cream. They talk and play games. In the evening, people watch fireworks. Sometimes it rains on Independence Day, but everyone still has fun outside.
