Hello, everyone! Today the topic of our lesson is: “Interests and preferences”.

Let’s look at these phrases:

I enjoy...

I am keen on...

I am fond of…

I find something interesting...

All these phrases mean the same thing: I like something. They are all synonyms.

You can say: I like doing sports, or you can also say: I enjoy doing sports.

Or:I am keen on doing sports.

Or:I am fond of doing sports.

Or:I find doing sports interesting.

Don’t forget that after the phrases, enjoy, be keen on and be fond of: we need to use the verb with the “ing” form:

For example:I am keen on dancing. оr I am fond of swimming.

If we find doing something interesting or cool we can describe it as:

Great Exciting Fantastic Cool Enjoyable

Fine Wonderful Terrific

For example:Watching music shows is really exciting.

оr Close friends and pizza can make watching sitcoms more enjoyable.

You might also dislike doing something, to express this, we use adjectives like:

Boring Awful Disgusting Terrible Dull Horrible

For example:Reality shows are really dull and boring.

Or:I find watching horror films awful.

If you don’t like a certain food, you might react like this:

Oh yuck! I hate fish

If you don’t the weather outside is horrible, you might say:“Ugh”

For example:Ugh, it’s cold!Ugh! The channel needs to be changed! What a rude program for kids!

Let’s look at a survey of TV viewing habits that was conducted in a Russian school:

According to this pie chart:

• most the teenagers like watching sitcoms.

• some of them prefer to watch music shows.

• a few teenagers find science fiction interesting.

• none of the teenagers enjoy watching cartoons.

Let’s looked at Denis. He is thinking of going somewhere. What do you think he will choose?

What’s on at the cinema this weekend?

The Lion King, a funny cartoon at the nearest cinema at 7 pm. I honestly don’t have the time this evening. I promised my mum that we’d eat out with our relatives.

What about Dora and the Lost city of Gold? It’s an enjoyable live-action adventure film. It starts at 12 pm.

I am afraid I have other plans this time.

How about The Angry Birds 2, a computer-animated action comedy film?

Frankly speaking, it’s my favourite genre of films! That really is my thing!

It starts at 10 am. The tickets are cheap enough. I suppose, that’s the best bet!

If you want to invite someone somewhere or ask them to join you and do something together, you can ask:

Are you free tonight?

The answers could be:

I am afraid I have other plans

Or: I think so (да, свободен)

Would you like to join me?

They can answer:

Count me in! or:It’s nice of you to ask, but I don’t think so!

What about going to the cinema?

How about coffee?

The answers could be the following:

With great pleasure!

Or:I am afraid, cinema is not really my thing!

Or:Sorry, I honestly don’t have the time!
