On motives of the fairy tales “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” and “Through the Looking Glass” by Lewis Carroll. Characters: Alice the Rabbit the Gladiolus the Rose the Daisy 1 the Daisy 2 the Pansies the Ficus (without words) the Tree (it is possible with verses, it is possible without) Scenery: the house, the border of a flower-bed, a frame of a mirror. Tree: any poem (8 lines, such as “Sleep, my girl, sweet dreams…” etc.) Good night, Sleep tight, Wake up bright In the morning light To do what’s right With all your might. The Rabbit: Oh, My God! My God! I’m late! I’m late! Oh, My God! What’ll my Queen say! She will be in fury if I’m late! In fury! In fury! Alice: Excuse me, sir… sir… What a strange day today! Is it me or not? And where has the rabbit run? (And where is the rabbit?) What a beautiful house! What beautiful flowers… Dear Gladiolus, hello. I wish you could answer me. Gladiolus: I can. I can if there is someone who deserves (merits) it. Alice: Tell me, please. Can the flowers talk? Gladiolus: Certainly. Rose: We are not permitted to speak first. I was waiting when you started speaking. You are of beautiful colour! It is good! Gladiolus: Colour plays no role. Leaves are so important but she has ugly ones. Alice: Tell me, is it terrible here? Nobody looks after you. Rose: Look, the Ficus is over there! What is he necessary for? Alice: But in case of danger he will help nothing to you. Rose: Why? Sure, he will. It will bite. Daisy 1: We named him Fi – cus because he bit. Daisy 2: Really you don’t know it? Daisy 1: What a stupid girl! Daisy 2: Very silly! Daisy 1: Really stupid! Gladiolus: Shut up! Damnation! They enjoy that I can’t get to them. They’ve got out of hands! Daisy 1: The silly girl! Daisy 2: Very silly! Alice: Don’t worry, Gladiolus! I will calm them now. Daisy 1, 2: Oh, you’ve frightened me. Alice: I’ll pick you up. Gladiolus: Bravo! It serves them. All evil in the world is from daisies. They always interrupt me. I’m withering when I hear their cries. Alice: Nevertheless it is not clear how you have learned to speak! You speak amazingly! How many times I was in the different gardens but I have never seen speaking flowers. Rose: But put your hand on the ground and everything will be clear for you. Alice: The ground is very firm. And what about the ground? Rose: As a rule, flower-beds are very soft. We want to sleep on the soft ones. And the flowers keep silence because they are drowsy all the time. Alice: I’ve never thought! Rose: In my opinion, you never think at all! Pansies: In fact, we have never seen such an idiot! Gladiolus: Shut up! In general you have seen nobody in your lives. You are snoring under the shade all days long, not opening your eyes. That’s what you have come to. You understand nothing. Alice: Tell me, is there anybody here? Gladiolus: Certainly. Rose: One flower, like you, sometimes appears here. Daisy 1: He looks foolishly. Daisy 2: You’ll see him soon. Daisy 1: He has two long stamens on the head. Alice: Where? Rose: On the head. And there is a black bucket on it. Alice: The black bucket on his head? Rose: And stamens. Gladiolus: And he is dangerous. I already see him! Here he is! Alarm! The Ficus! Let’s fight! Alice: Where is he? The Rabbit: The Queen! The Queen requires flowers! Flowers… Alice: Don’t touch them! The Rabbit: The Black Queen will kill me! Alice: Do you know the Black Queen? The Rabbit: Of course, she is coming here. She requires flowers. Alice: But I require her. (Leave) Gladiolus: As for me, I’m not afraid of her at all. Rose: We have noticed. Gladiolus: And I think this little girl’s colour has become brighter. Pansies: Oh, yes-yes. Daisy 1: She has grown wiser. Daisy 2: She has grown prettier. Daisy 1: She is not silly. Pansies: We saw… Gladiolus: Keep silence! I’m so tired of you. The day comes to an end. The sun is setting down. Sleep… Everybody, sleep… (The flowers fall asleep)
