There are several alternatives to saying “because:”

as + dependent clause + main clause. or main clause + as + dependent clause

e.g: As it was raining, we decided to stay at home. or We decided to stay at home as it was raining.


since + dependent clause + main clause. or main clause + since + dependent clause

e.g: Since it was raining, we decided to stay at home. or We decided to stay at home since it was raining.


due to + noun or participle clause + main clause or main clause + due to + noun or participle clause

e.g: Due to the rain, we stayed in. or We stayed in due to the rain. (The 2nd is more common in conversation)


on account of + noun or participle clause main clause. or main clause + on account of + noun or participle clause

e.g: On account of the rain, (it raining) we stayed in. or We stayed in on account of the rain (it raining).


owing to + noun or participle clause + main clause or main clause + owing to + noun or participle clause

e.g: Owing to the rain, (it raining) we stayed in. or We stayed in owing to the rain (it raining).


BECAUSE

because + dependent clause or noun+ main clause or main clause + because + dependent clause or noun

e.g: Because it rained, we stayed in. or We stayed in because it rained. (The 2nd is more common in conversation)

because of + noun or participle clause + main clause or main clause + because of + noun or participle clause

e.g: Because of the rain, (it raining) we stayed in. or We stayed in because of the rain (it raining).
