Dear Sir,
I am writing to apply for the job of Receptionist - General Assistant, which you advertised recently in Hotel and Catering Magazine. I am 25 years old. I have a secretarial Diploma. Since leaving college 1 have had several years’ experience doing secretarial and general office work in Aktau, including several months as receptionist for a large company. At the moment I am working as a receptionist at the Ferns Hotel, a small private hotel in Almaty. I have been employed there for the past six months. I am interested in working as a receptionist in your hotel as I enjoy hotel work and now I would like to broaden my experience. I enclose a photograph and a full curriculum vitae, and I would be happy to send any further details you may require.
Yours faithfully,
Sabina N.
Pair work “Ten golden rules”
A magazine produced by the Midland Bank in England for its younger customers gave ten Golden Rules for writing letters of application. Can you guess what five of them might be?
In pairs make a list, then tell the class. While listening, note down other good
rules, then choose the ten best rules and make a final list.
Assess with two stars and a wish
Ten Golden Rules for Your Letter of Application
1. Write clearly.
2. Keep your letter short and to the point.
3. State what job you are applying for.
4. Make the information you give relevant to the job, and firm, so read the advertisement carefully first.
5. Use plain writing paper and ink, not pencil. Or type your letter if you can do it neatly.
6. Draft out what you want to say in rough first.
7. Give all the information you're asked for.
8. Check your spelling and punctuation.
9. State when you are available for interview.
10. Print your name clearly under your signature.
Team work “Interview”
- In groups of 4-5 students discuss what questions do the interviewers usually ask. In groups try to answer possible job interviewing questions. Add more if you like:
