2. When we report someone’ words in the past there is always change of tenses:

future Simple – Future in the Past

Can/can’t – could/couldn’t

Pay attention to the following changes in the reported speech in the past:

This – that

These – those

Now – then

Tomorrow – the next day

Last year – the year before

Here – there

General and alternative questions in Reported speech are introduced with “if” and “whether”.

John asked me if I lived in Almaty.
