Warm up Teacher asks students “how are you today?” Checking home task Teacher asks students MAIN PART: ˃ Teacher introduces lesson objectives to the students. T: Dear guys! Today we are going to talk about how to stay healthy; will listen to the audio and identify the purpose of the conversation and specific information in it; comment on other students’ responses and provide feedback. Students are split into 3 groups and the groups get markers of different colours. Teacher writes the acronym “Sport” and students should complete the acronym by writing 1 word on the topic “Sport” one by one. They are allowed to write more than 1 word for each letter. Learners write topical words for each letter in 2 minutes. The entire class reviews the words and discusses whether to give a point for each word. The group with more points wins. e.g. Soccer, semi-final, … Players, penalty, … Olympic games, … Racket, rugby, referee, … Tennis, tournament, … Pre-listening Learners deduce the meaning of the following words and phrases: stay in shape, stroll around, recess, take the elevator; Listening Learners listen to the recording for the first time and answer the question: What is the purpose of this conversation? (Give advice to help people stay in shape) Learners listen to the recording again and complete the gaps with the words they hear. They write only one word for each gap. When they finish completing the exercise, learners swap their worksheets and check each other’s work according to the descriptors Keys: 1-regular, 2-weights, 3-outside, 4-stairs, 5-breaks, 6-stretch. Post-listening Learners express their opinions/ ideas on the following question: What are the ways of being healthy/ keeping fit? Game: Clap together Teacher and leaners make a circle. Teacher name the number for example 5. Students have to clap 5 times. This activity brings their attention to awards the teacher. Rhythms using body Teacher do rhythms using body. Leaners repeat together after teacher This activity will create engagement. Follow my words no action. Teacher asks to do some actions for example “hands up” but here is the twist you do something else you hear something else, for example touch your nose (but teacher touch her ear). This activity brings concentration to the students. Table Top Twitter Students are introduced with the assessment criteria that are on the Power Point presentation. Learners express their ideas on the given question on the board. They write their usernames under each post. Is it necessary to do sports in order to be healthy? When the time is up, groups go to other groups’ tables, read and comment on the posts. Then students go the next group’s table and comment on the answers to the questions or on the comments left by the previous group. When groups come to their own tables, they read the comments and provide feedback on the most interesting/ weird comment or on which they do not agree. [Note: this is a kinesthetic activity which is aimed at developing collaboration and critical thinking. Differentiation by support and product is taken place] | Students repeat after teacher.
