Sergey Korolev

The founder of practical cosmonautics

Due to his ideas the first satellite was launched and later the first man flew to space

In 1925 Korolev began to study aviation and mathematics at the Kiev Polytechnical Institute.

• In 1938 his work was interrupted. He was arrested on false charges.
• After the beginning of the Great Patriotic War Tupolev ’ s bureau was evacuated to Omsk.

Then Korolev was sent to Kazan, in a prison at Engine Plant.

Sergey Pavlovich Korolev worked in Kazan and lived at 5 Lyadova Street until the end of the war.

Sergei Korolev was awarded with two Gold Stars of the Hero of Socialist Labor

for his brilliant work.

This great scientist and engineer died in 1966.
