1 : I think that problems are around us. I`d like to say that school is one of the biggest problem, because of money. If you have enough money, your classmates will respect you and you can buy what you want.
2 : To my mind the first problem is to drink alcohol: beer, vine and etc…, doctors said that alcohol can destroy our brain, that`s why pupils have a bad memory, get bad marks, they are not interested in school life, lose real friends.
3 : Drugs! It`s one of the important problem. It is becoming more and more dangerous. Millions young people today are using drugs, and most of them died and will die. Medicine can not help them. It's very easy they think, but when they become older and see real world they understand that in all professions need to know perfectly about what you do, you must be well-educated and well-informed. That's why it's very important to get a good education at school. And if you work hard everything will be OK. But money has a big role in our future life. As you know our education is not free.
6 : I can say that parents should help their children in difficult situations. They are responsible for them and know the life better, of course grown-ups are wiser, that`s why they must forgive their children.
7 : Only close friends! Always we cheer each other up in troubles, turn for help or advice and can rely on each other.
8 : It seems to me the life was hard in different times and a man always tried to cope with troubles. The 21st century it is a high technology time, that`s why every person has to be very educated, hard work.
9 : On the one hand, our country is one of the richest in the world but on the other hand, why there are so many homeless, our schools haven`t modern equipments.
10 : As for me I have a lot of complaints and I try to cope myself because my parents are always busy, I haven`t close friends.

HOBBY
A hobby is a regular activity done for pleasure - typically during leisure, collecting themed items and objects, engaging in creative and artistic pursuits, playing sports.
Etymology. In the 13th century, the term "hobyn" had the meaning of "small horse or pony".
Collecting. The hobby of collecting includes seeking, locating, acquiring, organizing, cataloging, displaying, storing, and maintaining whatever items are of interest to the individual collector.
Outdoor recreation. These hobbies include gardening, hill walking, hiking, canoeing, climbing, fishing, wildlife viewing and engaging in watersports and snowsports.
Performing arts. Many hobbies involve performances by the hobbyist, such as singing, acting, magic, dancing, playing a musical instrument, martial arts and other performing arts.
Creative hobbies. Some hobbies result in an end product. Examples of this would be woodworking, photography, moviemaking, jewelry making, software projects such as Photoshopping and home music or video production, making bracelets, artistic projects such as drawing, painting, etc., creating models out of cardstock or paper - called papercraft. Hobbies also include higher-end projects like building or restoring a car, or building a computer from scratch.

Mike is a student. He studies at the Teacher’s Training College. He is in the first year of the full-time department; he goes to the College every day except Sunday. It takes much effort to study at the College and he tries to keep regular hours. Mike’s classes begin at 8.00. He lives far from the College, so he must get up very early. The alarm clock wakes him up at 6.30 a.m. Sometimes he turns off the alarm and lies in bed until his mother wakes him up again. While his mother wakes him up she is repeating the words: «An early riser is sure to be in luck».
He jumps out of bed, opens the window, does his morning exercises to the music, makes the bed and goes to the bathroom. In the bathroom he shaves, cleans his teeth and washes his face and hands. Sometimes he takes a cold or a warm shower. Then he dries himself on a towel and combs his hair in front of the mirror. Then he goes back to his room and dresses. In some minutes he is ready for breakfast. He usually has a cup of tea or coffee and a sandwich or two. Mike is always in a hurry because he doesn’t want to be late for classes. At 7.30 he leaves home for the College. He usually gets to the College by bus. The bus stop is only a few minutes walk from Nick’s house. It takes him about half an hour to get to the College. So, he comes to the College some minutes before the bell rings. He has enough time to get everything ready for his classes. His days are not like each other because he has a different timetable every day. As a rule he has 2 or 3 lectures and a seminar or a lab. Sometimes there is a gap of 2 hours that comes in between lectures or practical classes and it’s not convenient for both students and teachers. Mike does his best not to miss classes because he knows that missing classes is a sure way to fail at exams. At 11.10 o’clock he has a break for lunch. Mike goes to the canteen. After the break classes go on. They are usually over at about 3 or 4 o’clock. After classes Mike usually goes home. After a day of hard work Mike feels very tired and he hurries home. At home he has dinner and a short rest, then he does his homework and helps his mother about the house. In the evening Mike watches a serial or a detective story on TV. Sometimes he goes out with his friends. Mike goes in for sports. Twice a week he plays volleyball in the College gym. He returns home at 8 p.m. and has supper. When he stays at home in the evening he has supper with his parents. At supper they talk about different sort of things, including plans for the coming day.
At about 12 o’clock Mike goes to bed. You see, Mike is too busy and he always looks forward to the weekend.

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is situated on the groups of islands on the North-West of Europe. This group consists of two large islands: Great Britain and Ireland and a collection of about 4000 small islands. Great Britain consists of Scotland, England and Wales. There are no high mountains on these islands, there are many rivers, but they are not very long. The climate of the British Isles is never very hot in summer and not very cold in winter. The weather is changeable, wet, foggy.
The population of the UK is over 57 million people. It is highly industrialized country. The largest cities are Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool. The British Parliament was founded in 1256. It consists of two Houses: the House of Lords and the House of Commons. The sittings of the Parliament take place in the Westminster Palace. The Speaker is the chairman in the House of Commons; Lord Chancellor is the chairman in the House of Lords. The House of Commons consists of 651 elected Members of Parliament (MPs). 1203 members of the House of Lords are not elected, they are life peers or hereditory peers. There are several political parties in Great Britain: the Conservative, the Liberal, the Social-Democratic and the Communist Party.
The British flag, known as Union Jack, is a combination of three flags: the Saint Andrew's cross, the Saint Patrick's cross and the Saint George's cross. St. Andrew is the patron saint of Scotland, St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland and St. George is the patron saint of England. The official religion of Britain is Christianity. London
The capital of the United Kingdom and heart of the nation London is situated on the banks of the Thames river.
In 43 AD (Anno Domini) the Romans first crossed the river Thames and built a city there. They surrounded it with a wall and called it Londinium.
This original site of London is now called the City which is now the financial centre of this state. There are other parts in London: the West-End, the Docklands, the East-End. In the West-End one can see many rich mansions, palaces, beautiful museums, theatres, cinemas and expensive shops.
The Tower of London is the most famous of all historical buildings. In 1066 William the Conqueror began to build the fortress. Every other king made his additions and alterations there. In the past the Tower served both as a fortress, a palace, a state prison. There are no any prisoners in the Tower now except the ravens. The Raven Master is the person who takes care of these birds. According to the old legend if the ravens leave the Tower it will fall together with the Kingdom. The Tower of London is a museum today where the royal jewels and crowns are exhibited.
St. Paul's Cathedral is the greatest work of Sir Christopher Wren. Trafalgar Square is the centre of the West-End. Here we can see the Column with the statue of Admiral Nelson on its top. The great seaman defeated the French at the battle of Trafalgar in 1805.
The Buckingham Palace is the London home of the Queen. The tourists can see changing the guard in front of the palace every day at 11.30 a.m. Downing Street, 10 is the residence of the British Prime-Minister.
The Houses of Parliament and the Westminster Abbey are the neighbours. The Houses of Parliament is the seat of the British Government. There is a famous clock Big Ben on one of the Towers. The Abbey is a royal church. There are the tombs of the British kings and queens. The London underground is the oldest in the world. It was opened in 1863.
There are many nice parks and gardens in the capital: Hyde Park, Regent's Park, Kensington Gardens and Kew Gardens, for example. There are hundreds of historic buildings, galleries and museums in London. You can't be bored here, because if you are tired of London, you are tired of life.

Now a couple of words about papers. First of all there is no subscription. You may buy any on sale. There are two main types of newspapers: the «popular» papers and the «quality» papers.

The newspapers in Britain are proud of the fact that they are different from each other — each tries to have a definite profile.

Changes in education are closely connected with wider social and political changes. Variety, individualization, a larger measure of differentiation are encouraged.
Compulsory education in Russia begins at 6. There are three stages of the general secondary education .
The first years of schooling are the foundation of every child’s education. To start with, there is talking and science. Then there are important social skills to develop – like being part of a team, sharing ideas and learning to be self-confident. Great attention is paid to the development of the child’s body, to its physical training.
The goal of forms 5-9 is to teach the student to study more deeply. Whereas there was one classroom and one teacher for all subjects in the junior forms, now every subject is taught by a different teacher specializing in that particular subject.
The aim of the third stage, forms 10 and 11, is to concentrate on compelling the student to think for themselves, to increase independent thinking on all subject.
As a result of the movement towards greater autonomy for schools and teachers today we have more specialized classes, specialized schools and Lyceums.
Most of our schools are built according to a standart design. Usually it is a two or three-stored building with a large lawn in front of it. The school takes in all the children of the surrounding area, in which it is more or less centrally located. Thus, most of the children live within walking distance of the school.
On the ground floor you will see the pupils’ cloak-room, the school office, the offices of the doctor and the headmaster. There is also a gymnasium (gym) with a changing room next to it. In some schools there is a swimming pool. Usually there is a staircase in each wing. Adjoining each staircase are the lavatories and wash-rooms. On the first and on the second floors you will see the assembly hall, the staff room, classrooms, laboratories and subject study rooms. New technologies, such as computers, videodisks and cable television change the look of some classrooms.
What are the duties of the staff?
The headmaster runs the school in general. The second master deals principally with educational matters. The secretary does the office work, while the caretaker is responsible for the work of the school attendants and sees to it that the school is provided with all the necessary equipment.
Every school has a trained staff of teachers. Most teachers are form masters. School is a large community in which both children and teachers wish to be happy and treated with respect and fairness. If our school is to provide the best opportunities for pupils then all of us need to work together with everyone caring for and respecting each other.
Children are unable to develop properly in a classroom without discipline. Disorderly behaviour, disobedience, breaking of rules interfere with effective class teaching. The most common forms of misbehaviour are insolence and rudeness, bullying of younger and weaker pupils, making noise, tardiness, damaging school property and truancy.
The fault sometimes lies in the teacher’s shortcomings. In classes where the teachers are not punctual, where there is a lack of interest, firmness, or instructions are vague and the teaching is inefficient, the discipline is more likely to break down. Tact, initiative, understanding of human nature, sympathy and kindness are necessary requisites of a teacher.
In all the regions there are Teachers’ Updating Institutes which conduct refresher courses, give guidance in methods and propagate advanced educational experience. All teachers are encouraged to brush up their knowledge.
We hope that in the future teachers will achieve greater status in our society. They will be paid salaries that are comparable with other professionals. They will work in schools that offer continuing opportunities for professional advancement and training. As a result, education will attract the nation’s brightest and most qualified students.

Little children are divided into two groups, according to their mental abilities. Children leave infant schools when they are 7 years old. There are some types of secondary schools in England. They are: grammar schools, modern schools and comprehensive schools. In England boys and girls go to a secondary school from 11 till 16 years old. They don't go to school on Saturdays and Sundays.
One can attend modern school, but pupils don't learn foreign languages at such schools.
If pupils go to grammar schools they will have a good theoretical secondary education. The other secondary school is a comprehensive school. Almost all secondary school pupils (90 %) go there.
There are some private schools in England. Boys and girls don't study together at these schools. The sons of the aristocracy go to public schools and their parents pay much money for their education.
Independent and preparatory schools are private schools too. They prepare pupils for public schools for money . The teachers of the private schools pay personal attention to each pupil. It is possible to enter the best English Universities after leaving public schools. After finishing grammar schools pupils have good knowledge and may continue to study in colleges or Universities.
Pupils have school uniforms in England .It is an old tradition in the country. A boy's uniform consists of a special suit, a school cap, a tie and a blazer. A girl's uniform consists of a hat, a coat, a skirt and a blouse. As usual their uniform is dark.

Every citizen of our country has the right to education.
Education in Russia is compulsory up to the 9th form inclusive. After finishing 9 forms of a secondary school young people can continue their education in the 10th and the 11th form. They can also go to a vocational or technical school, where they study academic subjects and receive a profession.
After finishing a secondary, vocational, technical school young people can start working or go on in higher education. They can enter an institute or a university. There are three departments at the universities and institutes of Russia: day-time, evening and extramural departments. The complete course of studies at an institute or a university usually takes 5 years.
Part-time students have an opportunity to study without leaving their jobs. All applicants must take competitive exams if they want to enter a higher educational establishment. Higher education institutions offer a programme of academic subjects for undergraduates in a variety of fields, as well as a graduate course. If one finishes a graduate course and writes a thesis, he or she receives a candidate’s degree or a doctoral degree.
The system of higher education in Russia is going through a transitional period. The main objectives of the reform are: to decentralize the higher education system, to develop a new financial mechanism, to give more academic freedoms to faculties and students. All institutes and universities until recently have been funded by the state, the students have got scholarships. Now universities have fee-paing departments or courses where the cost of study is high and the students have to pay for their education.
Training specialists at our Institutes combines theoretical studies with practical work and industrial training. Students have lectures and practical lessons. They attend lectures on different subjects and they take notes. During practical lessons they study the material of the lectures.
The academic year is divided into two terms from September to January and from February to July. Students take examinations at the end of a term or a study year. To pass examinations successfully students are to work hard during the academic year. They must not miss lectures and they must study regularly. Sometimes students take examinations and credit tests in advance. At the end of each term the student submits a course paper, and at the end of course of studies he presents a graduation project or passes final state examinations.
Our country needs more and more specialists with higher education every year.

Higher education in Great Britain is provided by a great number of universities and polytechnics. There are about 50 universities in the country. They are divided into three types: the old universities (Oxford, Cambridge and Edinburgh Universities), the 19th century universities such as London and Manchester universities, and the new universities. The new universities are divided into various faculties, e.g. the faculty of science, faculty of social and economic studies. In each faculty there may be a number of departments dealing with separate subjects. Some years ago there were also polytechnics (now universities). After graduating from a polytechnic a student got a degree, but it was not a university degree. 30 former polytechnics were given university status in 1992. There are not only universities in Britain but also 350 colleges and institutes of higher education (some of which train teachers or professions connected with medicine). There is a competition to get into the best universities. They accept students mainly on the basis of their “A” level results.
The rules of teaching process differ from university to university. The teaching is based on the tutorial system as well as lectures. Each student has a tutor. He decides what lectures the students must attend, recommends books for reading, discusses and criticizes their written works. All lectures and examinations for all students are organized by the University authorities.
The academic year in Britain is divided into three terms, which usually run from October to December, from January to March and from April to June. Undergraduate courses normally take three years of full-time study, although a number of subjects take longer, including foreign languages (where courses include a year abroad). Medicine and dentistry courses are 5-7 years. After these years of studies and successful final examinations the students get their first degree B.A. – Bachelor of Arts or B.Sc. – Bachelor of Science. There are various postgraduate degrees, including Master and Doctor of Philosophy. The last two are awarded for research in arts and sciences.
At present, students who have been accepted by universities or other institutions of higher education receive a grant from their Local Education Authority, which covers the cost of the course, and may cover living expenses (accommodation, transport and food). This grant depends on the income of parents. Parents with higher incomes are expected to make a contribution. Until 1990 the grant did not have to be paid back, but now a system of loans has been introduced. That is why most students are to work. But students don’t usually have a job during term time because lectures and tutorials (small groups) are full time. However, many students now have to work in the evenings or during their vacation.
Most students live away from home, in flats or halls of residence.

The university in the United States is an educational institution comprising a college of liberal arts and sciences, a professional school leading to a professional degree and a graduate college (school). A graduate college provides programmes for study and research beyond the levels of the bachelor's and first professional degree.
The word «university», however, is also used in a broader sense, for almost any type of educational institution offering instruction beyond the level of the secondary school.
Thus in the United States there is some confusion in the use of the terms «college» and «university». Some institutions that are in fact colleges of liberal arts have been incorporated in the universities. Some institutions incorporated in colleges are in fact universities with graduate and professional schools.
American colleges and universities are either public or private, that is, supported by public funds or supported privately by a church group or other groups acting as private citizens although under a state charter.
In addition to colleges and universities there is a large number of professional schools, separate from universities. They provide preparation in one or more professional fields, such as law, music or theology. Junior colleges or professional schools do not offer the full four-year curriculum leading to a degree.
An institute of technology is a degree-granting institution that specializes in science and technology; some of them have graduate study, An institution offering programs of technological study only at the junior college level is known as a technical institution.
The colleges in the United States differ greatly in size- they may include from 100 to 5000 students and more. Most of the larger institutions fall into the category of universities, the largest being University of California, State University of New York, New York University, Columbia University and others.
Higher educational institutions usually are governed by a board of regents or a board of trustees.
The executive head of a college or a university is usually called the president. The various colleges or schools which take up a university are headed by deans. Within a school or college there may be departments according to subject matter fields, each of which may be headed by a professor who is designated as department head or chairman. Other members of the faculty hold academic ranks, such as instructor, assistant professor, associate professor, and professor.
Students are classified as freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors. A freshman is a first year student, a sophomore, a second year student, a junior, a third year student, and a senior, a fourth year student. All students who have graduated from the senior class and who continue studying at a university are classified as advanced students or graduate students. Some graduate students receive grants which cover the cost of their education; a person on such a fellowship is called a university fellow.

And the problem of choosing the future profession has always been very important and difficult matter because it determines our future life in many ways. It is one of the most important decisions for every person.
As for me, I had decided to be a teacher, so last year I entered this college. Our college is situated in Moscow; it is a nice building,it is very comfortable inside. Students say that our building is the best and it is quite easy to find different classes.
As for subjects – we have a lot of them. They are: English, Russian, Pedagogic science, Medicine, History, Physical Education and others. I find my subjects quite amazing because they help me to understand the way of teaching other people and to learn some more information, I have never known before.
As I’ve told before – I chose to be a teacher because it will be a chance to fulfill my dream of helping people to learn and get knowledge. I think I possess the qualities necessary for being a good teacher. I am hard-working, kind-hearted, and broadminded. I want to devote myself to teaching different people, especially children.
