План урока английского языка в 5 классе

(в соответствии с ФГОС)

Учитель: Макарова Светлана Алексеевна

Тема урока: Passive Voice

The grammar phenomenon

that helps us discover new countries

and build the towns of our dream

Grammar: Passive Voice

Vocabulary: The Geography of the UK

  1. What is the date today? What day of the week is it? Who is absent? What’s the weather like today?

The theme of our lesson is “The grammar phenomenon that helps us discover new countries and build the towns of our dream”

Do you understand the theme?

Can you guess what the word “phenomenon” means?

And what is “a grammar phenomenon “?

Now try to formulate the aims of our lesson. What shall we do tomorrow?

  1. First of all let’s practice to pronounce some English sounds and words.

  2. Now we’ll revise our grammar material.

How do we form Passive Voice?

3.1 Look at these verb forms, try to find passive constructions and name their tense forms.

Is washed, are swimming, bought, was drunk, have known, will hide, are situated, will be learned, is reading, were hidden, begins, was left, will be cooked, is opened, has spoken, consists, were separated, will be built, danced, is made.

3.2 Read the sentences, choose the right form of the verb and translate the sentences into English.

  1. Этот мост построили 20 лет назад.

(is built, was built, will be built)

  1. Швеция омывается Балтийским морем.

( is washing, has washed, is washed)

  1. В нашем городе откроют новую школу.

(will open, will be opened, shall be openen)

  1. В Австралии говорят на английском языке.

(is spoken, is speaking, speak)

  1. Дороги в этом городе были отремонтированы прошлым летом.

(repaired, was repaired, were repaired )

4. Well, it’s clear that you know passive verb forms in Simple Tenses. Let’s see if you can use them in speech.

What’s the main difference between passive and active constructions?

(Когда действие совершается не подлежащим, а над ним)

So in what situations can Passive Voice help us? Describe some of them.

Give your examples in Russian (когда лицо, совершающее действие над подлежащим неизвестно или менее важно, чем другая информация в предложении).

For example, when we speak about geographical position or try to describe different countries or cities it’s often easier to use Passive Voice than Active.

4.1 We have recently learned some information about the land and the people of Great Britain and I would like you to tell us some facts about this country using the table.

5. We see that it’s easy to describe the geography of the UK with the help of Passive constructions. Let’s learn to give some general information about other countries situated in different parts of the world.

Dialogue “At the Travel Agency

Imagine that one of you is a tourist who likes to travel but doesn’t know geography at all. He comes to a travel agency to learn more about the country he wants to visit. Please help him and tell where it is situated, what oceans and seas it is washed by and what language is spoken in the country. You can use the map.

You are practically ready to work as travel agents and to travel around the world!

6. But as English people say “East or West home is best” and when our journeys come to an end we always return to our native town. What is its name?

Do you agree that nowadays a lot of things are changing in our town? Do you always like those changes?

6.1 I would like you to read some information about Ryazan and express your opinion. (in a chain)

  1. Many new houses are built.

  2. Very few old houses are repaired.

  3. Very few parks are opened.

  4. A lot of new cinemas are opened.

  5. Very few trees are planted.

  6. Some new schools are built.

  7. No new libraries are opened.

  8. A lot of shopping centers are built.

  9. No new museums are opened.

  10. Some new churches are built.

  11. No new swimming-pools are opened.

  12. Very few roads are built.

  13. Not all the streets are cleaned.

  14. Not all roads are repaired.

  15. Some new bridges are built.

We see that not everything is good in our town but perhaps in 15 or 20 years you will be able to change the situation for the better. For example, some of you may become members of Ryazan government. Do you want to work for the local Government?

6.2 I want to divide you into three groups. Imagine that you will be the members of Ryazan government. This is the list of the problems of our town. But you will have enough money to solve only 5 of them. Choose and mark 5 main problems you want to solve first of all.

Now make up your promises: write what will be done if you work for our government. (What verb forms will you use? What will you begin your sentences with?)

to build new hospitals

to build new schools

to open new museums

to open new cinemas

to build new theatres

to build new houses

to repair old houses

to open new libraries

to build new shopping centers

to open new stadiums

to build new roads

to repair the roads

to build new bridges

to clean the streets

to open new parks

to plant a lot of trees

to grow a lot of flowers

The most important things are ………. Don’t forget about your promises in the future.

7. Lets return to the theme and the aims of our lesson.

Have we achieved our aims?

And what about the theme of the lesson?

Does passive voice really help us discover new countries and build the towns of our dream?

Do you like the lesson? Evaluate it.( Funometer)
