Listening - Развитие навыков аудирования с пониманием основного содержания

1 задание Well, as you know, different people like different games. In exercise 9 on p.59 you will listen to 5 speakers talking about activities they like. You need to match the speakers to their activities. Be attentive! There are two extra games. Now take your pencils and let's start listening! That was rather difficult, wasn't it? Let's check the answers together.

Speaker 1 On a cold, wintry day there’s nothing I like more than sitting at home and playing. Moving the men and pawns around the board makes you feel as if you are taking part in a battle. There’s nothing better than chess on a rainy day.

Speaker 2 My friends all think I’m a little boring but I love playing with words. I think it’s really interesting trying to think of words using little square letters. My friends probably don’t like playing scrabble with me because I always win!

Speaker 3 My friend and I are members of the local club. We practise together daily. Sometimes I enter tournaments, but unfortunately I never win. We have to be careful where we throw the darts though. They could hurt someone!

Speaker 4 There’s no better way to relax than putting together the pieces of a puzzle. After school I must put together a few pieces from a jigsaw or else I feel bad. Some of my friends find it boring but to me it’s good exercise for the brain.

Speaker 5 Some people find it a little boring but I love playing with my marbles. It doesn’t matter if I’m inside or out, my marbles come with me. Alone, or with my friends, it’s my favourite game. One thing is for sure — I’m never going to lose my marbles!

2 задание Pastimes Listen and write how many per cent of British people like their free time activities

There are a lot of ways to spend free time in the UK. 35% like gardening. They talk about it in their offices, and at home. In the evening they work in their gardens, large and small, and they do it in any weather. They grow flowers, vegetables and fruit there. If an Englishman has no garden he grows something in a window box outside his kitchen. If you want to please an Englishman, be very polite about his garden. Perhaps, he will show you his garden and tell you about it. So you will listen to it and say, «How nice!» or «How interesting!».

25% love watching television. Television is a useful leisure activity. People spend much time watching TV. 20% of British people in Britain go in for sports.  Football is the national sport in Britain.  British people prefer photography. 10% like taking pictures of palaces, castles, churches and old houses. 10% are keen on listening to music .
