Environmental issues. Belarus

Air pollution is one of the main problems of today. Millions of people all over the world live in areas where the air is not safe to breathe. The cities of Belarus are polluted, especially industrial centers such as Salihorsk and Navapolatsk. This problem has become more serious in our country after Chernobyl tragedy in 1986. Belarussian Polessie is polluted with dangerous chemicals. So we should use public transport or bicycles, not personal cars, grow new trees with your parents, walk in the forest to enjoy fresh air.

Everybody in Belarus knows that, for example, Orsha is highly industrialized area. Some businessmen together with the Italian partners decided to create a leather plant on the banks of the river Dniper. Of course leather is necessary for producing shoes, jackets, etc. But animals die and the plants are dangerous. People make Red Lists with names of rare animals and plants. We can’t kill or hurt these species, but we should protect them, make reserves for them. For example, there are some reserves in our country: reserve Berezinskij, Nalibotskaya Pushcha and Belovezhskaya Pushcha.

Water is necessary for life. We drink water, wash everything with it. Animals and plants drink it as well and some of them also live in water. But rivers and lakes are a place with dangerous chemicals and waste, because people pollute them. Plants and factories pollute water and it is dangerous to drink, to swim in it or to live in it for animals. Water pollution is a problem in our country. The most polluted river is the Swisloch. But this river is the main river in Minsk. The water in Soligorsk region is also very polluted. What can we do about water pollution? First of all, we should never throw litter anywhere. We need also to use water wisely. For example, we shouldn’t keep the tap running when we don’t use it.
