Glossary

Authentic assessment is the direct evaluation of student performance through tasks that exercise their intellect. 

Engaged learning is the process in which students actively participate in their learning.

Essential questions also called Driving questions develop foundational understandings. They provide the fundamental organizing principles that bound an inquiry and guide the development of meaningful, authentic tasks.

Project Based Learning (PBL) - is a teaching method in which students gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to an authentic, engaging and complex question, problem, or challenge.

Project. All the things students will do in order to learn the standards encompassed by the Driving Question.

The Digital age, also called the information age - is defined as the time period starting in the 1970s with the introduction of the personal computer with subsequent technology introduced providing the ability to transfer information freely and quickly.

Voice and choice. Students should have a say in some aspects of the project (voice) and be required to make choices in many areas. Providing room for “voice and choice” is part of building student engagement.
