2. Say the tongue twister:

III Grammar – there is/there are

4. Study the rule.

Для обозначения нахождения, наличия, существования чего-то, кого-то в определенном месте используется оборот: there is/there are

There is + сущ. в ед. ч.- There is a teacher in the classroom.

There are + сущ. во мн. ч.- There are students in the classroom.

There is a teacher and a student in the classroom.

Если русские предложения начинаются с обстоятельства места (где?) – в английском употребляют оборот there is/are. На русский язык, как правило, не переводится, или соответствует глаголам иметься, висеть, лежать, стоять.

There is a picture on the wall.- На стене висит картина.

Is there a teacher in the classroom? – Yes, there is./ No, there isn’t.

Are there students in the classroom? – Yes, there are./ No, there aren’t.

There isn’t a teacher in the classroom. There is no teacher in the classroom.

There aren’t students in the classroom. There are no students in the classroom.
