Realization of the direction
“Education for sustainable development”
In the period of 2013-2015, work of the boarding school was held under the sign of the tenth anniversary of education in interests of sustainable development, including ecological direction, issues of social development, environmental protection.
The boarding school helps upbringing of pupils as ecologically and socially responsible and competent citizens, who are able to take into account aspects of sustainable development in their work and everyday life.
We are sure that sustainable development is the only one way to save our planet for future generations, and accent on more active use of project technologies helps to reach these goals.
Since 2014 the boarding school has been working at the project “World heritage of Russia”.
In the network of the project many objects of nature heritage were studied (Lake Baikal, Lindulovskaya grove, volcanoes of Kamchatka, etc.), ecological issues and variants of solutions to them were discussed. In the course of work at the project pupils coped with the search for necessary information in e-libraries and electronic encyclopedias, looked for information about objects of the World heritage at the e-resource “The free encyclopedia Wikipedia”. Pupils chose one of heritage objects and prepared messages in hard and soft formats. In the network of realization of the project pupils got skilled in making presentations in the application Microsoft Power Point. Different forms of action and interaction were used for implementation of the projects: individual, pair and group forms.
Within the project pupils visited and studied several objects of The World Cultural Heritage such as: the Kazan Kremlin, the architectural building complex Bulgar, the historical centre of St.-Petersburg and monument complexes connected with it, the Moscow Kremlin and Red Square. During studying heritage objects, pupils got acquainted with history, culture peculiarities, heroic deeds of people, outstanding works of painting, architecture, sculpture.
Since 2013 teaching staff, Council of trustees and parental community of boarding school have been working at the project “Our cozy schoolyard”. The project goal is raising of floral seedlings for designing a school flowerbed taking into account economical exploitation of the area and its rational use. Within the project realization, literature on landscape design was studied, a project of schoolyard landscape gardening was worked out; plants for designing the schoolyard were selected; agro technical approaches of gardening the suggested plants were determined. Parental community was attracted to work at the project. Participation of parents to the work at the project helped unity of a family, forming children’s and adults’ community, connected by united goals, missions, directed at personal growth and development. Correctly planned, planted flowerbed became an oasis of ecological culture in the boarding school.
Since 2015 realization of the subproject “School arboretum” started. It’s an urgent issue, because ecological, cultural, moral education of schoolchildren became nationally important. The boarding school is children’s home. We want to take the road of good and creation; that’s why we began with a little corner of our motherland – school arboretum. The main goal of the project is enlightenment of pupils in the issues of ecology, environmental protection and sustainable development, upbringing of responsible attitude and interest in these problems, stimulation of pupils to an active participation in practical measures for reducing negative ecological development, forming ecological culture, diligence, active life position as the leading feature, attracting attention of children to urgent ecological problems and to nature conservation practice.
During realization of the project, garden figures were made from improvised materials, as well as corners of landscape design (rosary, raised paths, micropark of coniferous and deciduous plants), beds of flowers.
Arboretum is used like “an alive lecture hall” and subject of inquiry, for walks and excursions. Arboreous and dumetosous vegetation has favorable influence on microclimate of the school area: it clears, moistens, disinfects air, makes complementary comfort at the territory of the schoolyard. Arboretum plays a big role in studying school subjects. Conduction of excursions in different seasons of the year gives significant volumes of information for forming ecological thinking and ecological behavior.
Now the boarding school is working at making a greenhouse “Winter garden”. Five kinds of actions are planned to be carried out in the greenhouse: educational, exploratory, enlightening, designing and production directions. New specializations of labor education are planned to be brought into study plan: vegetable grower, flower grower, flower designer.
Since 2013 the boarding school has been realizing the project “The world around us”. Ecological project “The world around us” was represented on the open regional event “Project technologies in educational work with children with musculoskeletal disorders” (2014). The project goal is forming safe attitude to environment by means of widening the idea about environment, on the base of the nearest social and nature environment. Within the project, children with cerebral spastic infantile paralysis and mental deficiency took part in creative contests, holidays, conversations, games on the ecological subject matter, were at outings and xexcursions.
The ecological project “Through pages of the Red Book of Ulyanovsk region”, which started in 2013, was represented on the open regional event “Experience of the best educators for practice of any educator» (2014). Project realization promoted creating an idea about the Red Book as a document in thinking of children with disabilities, knowledge fixation about plants and animals, recorded in the Red Book, which occur at the territory of Ulyanovsk region; progress in skills of observation, self-reliant exploratory work by study of separate species; upbringing of curiosity, careful attitude to nature. Forms of project realization were lessons, conversations; fitting out object and spatial environment (designing a library, creating the Red Book of Ulyanovsk region), work with parents, playing technologies.
Since 2013 the project “Ecological marathon” was carried out in primary school, including contests of drawings, posters and photos of schoolchildren on the subject “Nature of native land”, an exhibition of handicrafts from natural materials was prepared. During project realization pupils published albums-magazines “Atlas of arboreous and dumetosous vegetation”, “Trees and bushes of our school», many exploratory measures were carried out: “Experiment with magical water”, “Snow shielding properties”, “Experiment with cut off branches”, “Journey to the homeland of indoor plants”; extracurricular actions, quizzes, holidays: “What grows in my country, city, town, village?”, “Autumn holiday”, “Bird’s Club of the Funny and Inventive”, “Through forest paths”, “Plural world of insects”, extracurricular action “Journey of streamlets”. The project was represented in the collection of International scientific conference “Modern education: experience and trends of development” (2013).
Since 2011 pupils of the boarding school have been visiting hippotherapy lessons. Communicating with a horse, a child gets impressive, positive, emotional charge. Medical effect can be reached with widening of disabled children’s environment through an outing.
Ecological and enlightening work in the boarding school is realized through participation in competitions of different levels (from the school level to the international level), organization of excursions in a native land, excursions to museums of the city and region.

Within the work direction of UNESCO Associated Schools “Education for sustainable development” teaching staff of the boarding school took part in the following competitions and actions:
- regional creative report of the boarding school in the work direction “Successful socialization of children with musculoskeletal disorders“. Within this measure, workshops and open lessons were held at the ecological subject: workshop “A hand-made violet”, open extracurricular lesson “Golden Khokhloma”; extracurricular event “Tree of life in decorative and applied arts”.
- extension courses for administrative and teaching staff of educational institutions in forming, generalization and dissemination of experience for implementation of programs and earning and teaching kits for pre-specialization and professional orientation of children with disabilities (1.03.2013). Teachers of the boarding school represented to the audience of the extension courses open actions of different subject matters, including ecological direction: open extracurricular event in the English lesson at the subject matter “Save the planet”, integrated event “Let’s save nature heritage of hometown”.
-the 2nd Russian scientific and practical conference “Ecological education: problems, ideas, innovations”. Experience of the work at the subject matter “Familistic approach in ecological education in primary school” was represented at the conference.
-the 3rd international competition at the subject “Karst protection as a gift to future generations” in the networks of International Scientific and Practical Forum “Protected Karst territories. Education and training” (September 23-26, 2015, Sofia, Bulgaria). Artistic photographs with images of caves and grottos of Russia were represented (New Athos Cave, Atysh grotto etc.)
Thereby, education in interests of sustainable development in the boarding school is a persistent process of upbringing, self-education, accumulation of experience and development of a personality, directed to forming value orientation, behavior norms and getting special knowledge to save cultural diversity and environmental protection.
“Peace and human rights, rights of children, democracy, non-violence”
The boarding school implements education with the sense of Global Citizenship. Such kind of education provides the opportunity to pupils to take part in solving global problems at the local and international level and, in the final analysis, to become active participants in forming a more rightful, peaceful, tolerant, inclusive, safe and stable world.
Work in the direction “Peace and human rights, rights of children, democracy, non-violence” is realized through participation of pupils in school events, carrying out planning periods and afterschool events, interaction with the youth social organizations, school №69, work of pupils’ self-government.
The children’s association for pupils of 1-12 forms was created in the boarding school. Regulations of the association were worked out, the active membership was determined. Dergunov German became a leader of pupils’ self-government. In 2013 he was an active participant of the competition «I am a Leader», which was carried out by the Youth social organization «Youth initiative centre». In the network of this competition German and his team conducted the concert and prepared workshop session «Preference of creative decisions in the crisis», and made a visiting event «Let’s set new records» as well. According to the results of the 11th Regional competition of the activists of the studying youth «I am a leader!» German has taken the 2nd place, getting ahead of their healthy peers, pupils of the most prestigious city schools (gymnasiums 1, 33, 79) and became the holder of the presidential grant for support of the talented youth in the network of national project «Education».
Within this system interaction, pupils of the boarding school take part actively in events of different levels.
Pupils of the 3rd forms took part in the tolerance lesson «We are different, but we are together» within the regional competition «The best educator» (2014). The lesson promoted forming tolerant attitude to people of other nationalities, peers, adults.
Educatees of the boarding school took part in the Regional Youth Forum «For Commonwealth of nations», dedicated to the National Unity Day within a framework of realization of the ethnocultural project «Commonwealth» (2014). During this event pupils got acquainted with culture, way of life, traditions of different nations of our country.
The pupils of boarding school Dergunov German (11A form) and Zinchevskiy Demid (7A form) took part in the political-legal role-playing game “The Ulyanovsk UN model” in the period of 20th -22nd of March 2015 on the basis of the camp “Yunost”. The UN model is a role-playing game, which reconstructs work of the UN. The Human Rights Council model, as well as the UNESCO and Security Council models were recreated. At the agenda of the UN model were acute issues, which turn to be the subject matters of the UN General Assembly: human rights violation, reconditioning of culture monuments, measures for liquidation of transnational terrorism. Participants of the project transformed into real diplomatic officials, who represent different countries of the world discussing important world problems. Each deputy needed to defend not their own point of view, but an official position of the country they represented. Dergunov German became one of the best deputies of the Council Committee on human rights.
One of priorities of internal policy of the Russian Federation is guaranteeing the right of education for all categories of citizens, including children with disabilities. Being specialized in work with children, who have musculoskeletal disorders, the boarding school №89 accumulates domestic and foreign experience of education of disabled children, initiates consolidation of all concerned institutions – government, private, social and business ones for solving important tasks for life sustenance of disabled children.
Since 2015 the boarding school works at a problem of education and social adaptation of children with autistic spectrum disorders. Within this direction the boarding school collaborates actively with the Autonomous non-commercial organization «Rehabilitation centre for disabled people since childhood «Our sunny world». In 2013 «Our sunny world» was admitted to the European Association «Autism Europe», which unites the leading organizations from 30 European countries and protects right of people with autism at the EU level. In 2015 specialists of the boarding school had study course in «Our sunny world» according to «The Program of complex rehabilitation and social adaptation of children with autistic spectrum disorders and other developmental delays», which was represented for the first time in 1997 on the 9th International FRDI Congress in Denver, the USA. The training of specialists of the boarding school in the sphere of Applied behavior analysis (ABA) is planned to be carried out in Moscow city. Thereby, the boarding school №89 will be the only one in Ulyanovsk base for transmission of experience of work with children with autistic spectrum disorders, what promotes realization of rights of children with autism for education.
Education with the sense of Global Citizenship allows pupils to realize their rights in full measure. Health is known to be one of the most important components of human wealth and happiness, one of integral human rights. All legitimate rights of a child are determined in the Convention on children’s rights – as well as the right in healthy growth and development. To realize these rights of pupils with disabilities, the boarding school comes forward as an initiator, organizer and active partner in sports measures for this category of children.
In 2012 the boarding school team took the first place in regional football competition for children with musculoskeletal disorders.
Regional sporting contest «Big starts in Lukomorye» among children with disabilities were organized and carried out in collaboration with «Specialized Complex Children's and Youth Sports School» on the base of sports centre «Volga» in 2012, where pupils of the boarding school took the 1st and 4th places.
In 2012 pupils took part in the Russian Spartakiada Ski Games, carried out in Izhevsk.
In 2013 pupils, educatees of the boarding school took part in the 1st Regional winter Spartakiada Games among disabled children.
In 2013 pedagogues of the boarding school organized and carried out companionate contest on checks between the secondary school №69 and the boarding school №89. Pupils of the boarding school №89 took the 1st and 2nd places.
In 2013 the first Regional swimming competitions among children with musculoskeletal disorders found place on the base of the boarding school.
In 2013 the following sports events were carried out within work with children’s rest organization in summer holidays named «Rainbow of success»: «The most high-skilled child», «A mysterious journey», a tourist game «Merry naps», an outing into a theme park «Adrenalin». The base could be organized thanks to participation in the Regional contest of projects for children’s rest organization in summer holidays «Summer meridian», where the boarding school became the owner of the grant at the value of 100.000 rubles.
In 2014 the Regional Sports Festival among Ulyanovsk disabled pupils found place in the boarding school to support Paralympic Games in Sochi. 12 teams took part in the Festival. The competition was carried out in 4 sports directions: swimming, checks, boccia, table tennis.
Education with the sense of Global Citizenship gives pupils the opportunities and skills set to realize their rights and obligations for assistance in forming the exquisite world and future.
Under a slogan of peacekeeping, stableness and safety, prevention of military conflicts in future the events were held in the boarding school which were dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Victory in the World War II.
Pupils of the boarding school and the teachers took part in the move “Good actions in the name of goodness”. They projected the concert “For life and peace in the world” in the Home for elderly people. Participants and children of the World War II, as well as toilers of home front made up the audience of the concert.
In the network of the action “Aftermath of war”, a big searching and exploratory work was carried out with the help of pupils, their parents, as well as the whole teaching staff with the use of family archives of veterans or their direct descendants; “The Book of Memory” was created, where pupils told stories about relatives-participants of the World War II.
Participants of the literary and musical lounge “Songs and poems about war” were pupils of forms 1-12. On the eve of celebrating Victory Day, pupils remembered those, who were at war, who wrote about war, who died in the name of peace and freedom for those, who live.
Carried out lessons of Victory were diverse in form and composition: museum lessons, literary and musical lessons, lessons with the use of sequences of newsreel of war years.
In 2015 pupils took part in the annual Festival of children’s creativity “Save children’s hearts” dedicated to the memory of war years. Participants presented the concert program “Saved world remembers” which received high assessment of jury.
Toilers of home front and children of war were invited to the festival. The concert united two generations: generation of war years and generation of the 21st century for the only one idea – idea of peacekeeping in the world.
These measures help pupils to form values, knowledge and skills, in which base are peace, justice, tolerance, safety and thanks to which pupils can become responsible citizens of the world.
Thereby, the boarding school has experience of work according to directions of International organization “UNESCO Associated schools” in the context of adaptation to needs of global information society and tends to establishment of contacts and links with the world community through innovative culture and implementation of practical experience of ICT use in school education.
