“Welcome to “What to Know”
I am your host Kilka. And tonight you will learn a lot about the Internet. The Internet is difficult to explain, because it is impossible to describe. It is much like birds. What are birds? Nobody knows.
A computer network refers to a computer connected by telephone wires or other methods in order to communicate with other computers. So the Internet is many of these computer networks connected together throughout the world. It is common for computer scientists to refer to the Internet as the Net. If you up the telephone and it is not hooked up to the local telephone company, you cannot call anyone and nobody can call you. Similarly if you have a computer which is not hooked up the Internet Service Provider or ISP (ISP) than your computer cannot communicate to other computers and other computers cannot communicate with your computer. Sorry Bride. May be you should connect to the Internet next time.
The Internet provides many services at your finger tips. The Internet can be used as a library, a Post-office, a fax machine and even a conference room. You can send your letters to people with similar interests, search for materials and read about topics which can be found in the libraries.
The Internet is capable of many tasks and includes many different things which utilize the Internet. One of these things is a World Wide Web. (WWW – World Wide Web) The World Wide Web is a collection of documents called Web Pages. (Web Pages)Web Pages are produced and stored independently throughout the world by people with computers linked through the Internet.
(Internet) Web Pages can contain information on any subject imaginable such as water or mass. They can have texts, pictures, sounds, movies and even they control Roaming applications on your or the Web Pages computer.
Most importantly Web Pages can have links to other related Web Pages. If these links that give the Web its name with all the Web Pages in the World linked to each other a diagram looks like a big messy spider net. “I am not messy.”
Another feature of the Internet is Web Browsers. (Browser) A Browser has two features. One: it’s a soft Web program for getting information from the World Wide Web and two: it’s a person who gets information from the Web. You are a browser. In fact you are browsering right now. So I hope you have learnt a thing or two about the Internet.
Make sure you’ll turn your notes to the professor or head of class at that time. Make sure you’ll turn the next week on a discussion quantum physics and it’s relations to rabbits. Thank you for watching “What to Know”. I am your host Kilka. Signing off.
