клуба «Белый слон» по теме «Празднование Дня Колумба.

Открытие Америки.»

Aims:

• To acquaint students with Christopher Columbus biography;

• To enrich pupils’ knowledge about the discovery of America;

• To develop free speaking using personal experience and knowledge;

• To exchange opinions in groups and pairs;

• To teach kids acting skills and role playing reading in Reader’s Theatre

Цели :

• Ознакомить учащихся с биографией и историей празднования Дня Колумба;

• Развивать навыки аудирования , монологической и диалогической речи, работая в парах и группах;

• Развивать память и логическое мышление путём разгадывания кроссвордов и тематических паззлов;

• Воспитывать уважительное отношение к иностранной культуре , интерес к традициям и обычаям национальных праздников, литературе.

Materials: multimedia presentation about Columbus life, “Columbus voyage” cartoons, sheets with crosswords and different while watching tasks, Reading Theatre folders with printed dialogues to act.

Plot

I.Our meeting (Знакомство 6- и 7-классников между собой)

The President: Today we have gathered to celebrate Columbus Day by talking about his life, discoveries and voyages. To begin with I’d like you to get acquainted with each other…So, watch and sing a song together with Guy Mitchell ( the 1-st couplet)

I declare the meeting open!!! ( Signal of the bell)

II. Speaking about Columbus life.

The President: Today we are going to find out :

• Who discovered America and when?

• Who sent Columbus to India?

• What do you know about the man? Etc.

• But firstly, pretend that you are sailors. So, there are 3 crews today because there were 3 ships: the “Nina”, the “ Pinta” and the “ Santa Maria”.

Ready to discover a New Land? Full speed ahead! ( sound of the bell)

III. Group work. Activities.

The President: To celebrate the holiday you should know some special words. ( hand out sheets with activities). But you have only 3 min. to do the task! ( to use an hourglass)

Let’s check up the new words and read them all together!

IV. Columbus Day puzzle.

Look! There are some magic things to help us in our voyage. Firstly, name them. Then find and guess a keyword.( AMERICA)

V. Cartoon watching and listening task.

The President: Well, we are going to discover America but what do we know about the Man?!

VI. Reader’s Corner. Group reading.

The President: Pretend that you are real sailors and you are on board the ships. You have been sailing for a long time…Role play and read the scenes from your voyage…( acting).

It’s your turn to tell us everything you know about the great discovery and the famous explorer! Watch and read a poem devoted to Columbus…( poem reading)

VII. Dedication to the club members.

The President: Now I’m sure you are real sailors and discoverers! You are ready to be worthy members of our English speaking club “ The White Elephant” I’d like you to make a vow! ( pupils repeat together).

Let’s sing a traditional Columbus Day song!(watch and sing!)
