B2

A. Comfort can be fashionable.

B. Fashion is too expensive.

C. Clothes can say about people a lot.

D. Fashion can be dangerous for your health.

E. Unisex clothing is a new popular style.

F. Right choice is important for teenagers.

1. We use fashion to show others who we think we are and who we want to be. It is defined by people's age, sex, occupation and often, nationality. A man walks down the street in a business suit — and we understand that he probably works in an office and is very serious. Some people like vintages clothes that our grandparents wore in their youth. We see these old-fashioned dresses, scarves and boots on young boys and girls and we get the idea that those youngsters prefer the past, the style of the old times.

2. Today we are able to choose clothes that appeal to our personal sense of style. If we like them, we buy them. If we don't, we don't. We use fashion to express our personality; our likes and dislikes. It's nice to be able to wear something and feel that you look cool in the mirror. It's particularly important to be cool in your teens and wearing the right clothes can help. For example, if you like rock music, you might dress like a rock musician. Other people will see your black leather jacket and miniskirt and they'll know what you like. If they like rock music too then they will think you're cool.

3. In today's world the roles of men and women are mixed up in a way they have never been before. Fashion designers have responded to this and created a style of clothing that is good for everybody. They use the same comfortable cut and materials for men and women and everyone now wears jeans, ties and shirts. Some things haven't changed though – women still spend too much money on fashion. But, surprisingly, men now tend to do the same!

4. Sometimes we are not confident enough to be ourselves. Some of us think the best way to be popular is to wear designer fashion like D&G and to look like the models in the magazines. They say that being thin is beautiful. They keep to a strict diet and sometimes stop eating altogether because they want to wear smaller clothes. They might think they are making themselves more beautiful but they are seriously damaging their bodies. It can result in a serious illness called anorexia. All they want is to be popular but usually they have to go to hospital instead.

5. Everyone is individual and can have their own style, but it mustn’t be the only aim in life. One of the most fashionable styles nowadays is casual. Youths like it because such clothes make them feel free. Typical clothes in this style are jeans, T-shirts, tops, and everything comfortable. Sport shoes and shoes without heels are correct for this style, too. You can wear them to a birthday party and at school, at a club and in the country: everywhere that you like to go. Such clothes, if made by Jennifer Lopez or another famous person, can be very expensive.

Have you ever been to the Wetland Centre?  It is situated in London, on the banks of the River Thames. The Centre is home to some rare and beautiful wildlife including over 180 species of birds, bats, grass snakes, slow worms and butterflies.

The Wetland Centre is open 7 days a week except 25 December.

Whatever the time of the year or weather, there is always something to see and do. You can walk among the lakes, ponds and meadows or join free guided tours and learn more about this fantastic 42 hectare wildlife reserve. You can feed ducks, geese and swans from around the world. If you are tired, you can have a cup of coffee and delicious home-made cakes in the café.

In the Adventure Area young visitors can go through great water rat tunnels, climb the vertical wall, play water games in the Discovery Centre or watch our Planet Water film in the cinema. At weekends and during the school holidays there are additional activities for them, for example, a nightmare safari. It’s a favourite with children and teenagers. But, according to the rules, children under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult.

In our gift shop you can find lots of wildlife books, eco products, outdoor clothing, cards, children's gifts and souvenirs of your visit to the centre.

Visitors are asked to respect the wildlife of the centre by walking on the paths at all times and not making loud noise. Using scooters, bicycles, roller skates or skateboards is not allowed in the Centre. However, this doesn’t mean that all sport is prohibited at the Centre. You might see people jogging and exercising here.

The Wetland Centre is really worth visiting.
