William Shakespeare was and is the greatest writer in the English language. He was born in Stratford-upon-Avon in 1564. His theatre was very popular in London. He wrote 37 plays, including Hamlet, King Lear, Othello, Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth. He also wrote poems and sonnets.

Arthur Conan Doyle was born in 1859 in Scotland. He studied medicine and became a doctor of medicine. But his medical practice wasn’t very successful and he began writing stories. He wrote plays, short stories, historical novels and supernatural fiction, but he will be remembered as the creator of one of the greatest detectives Sherlock Holmes and his friend Dr.Watson.

Joanne Rowling was born in 1965 in England. She worked as a secretary in different firms but she always wanted to write. Her first story, Rabbit, she wrote at the age of 5 or 6. 1997 Joanne published Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s stone. The Harry Potter series includes 7 books. In 2000 she became the highest-earning woman in Britain. In 2004 Forbes magazine named her as the first person ever to become a billionaire from writing books.

Vladimir Korotkevich was born in 1930 in Orsha. He worked as a teacher in Ukraine and then in Orsha. Korotkevich studied literate and cinematography in Moscow. He wrote novels, detective and adventure stories, plays, essays, articles, screenplays for films. His famous books are The Dark Castle Olshansky, The wild hunbt of King Stakh, The ears of rye under thy sickle.

Vasil Bykov was born in 1924 in Bychki village. He was a Belarusian prose writer and playwright. He was one of the greatest war writers in the 20th century. His marvelous stories express rich thoughts and deep feelings of his characters and have philosophical subtext, for example Third Rocket, The Alpine Ballad, The Dead Don’t Feel Pain, The Obelisk, To Go and Not To Return. He was awarded several times for his books; in 1986 he got the Lenin Award for the story Sign of Trouble. Vasil Bykov died in 2003.
