Theme: ABAI IS A GREAT KAZAKH POET.

Aims: 1 to develop pupils’ skills and habits in SRWL on the theme.                                                                                                                              2. To learn the new words; to review the Articles.                                                                                                                                                                                3. To develop communicative activities of the pupils; to bring up patriotism and love for national culture.

Aid: pictures, musical clips, video, interactive blackboard, portrait of writers and poets.

                                                                             Plan.

I  Organization moment . Teacher / pupil on duty: speaking about day, date, weather. Greetings. Good morning, dear boys and girls! At the beginning of our lesson I want you to wish each other the best results at the lesson. Pupil 1 – pupil 2, pupil 3 – pupil 4, etc. I wish you to be a success / a good humour / kind and clever / brave / capable / cheerful / diligent / generous / smart / well-bred / wise / witty / lucky / happy. etc.

Teacher :  All right, now sit down, please. Let us begin our lesson.    Every country and every people has its favourite poets and writers. So William Shakespeare and Charles Dickens are favourite for the British people. Alexander Pushkin and Leo Tolstoy are favourite writers for Russian people.    Today at our lesson we are going to speak about a Kazakh favourite writer and poet. I’d like you guess WHO IS THAT KAZAKH  FAVOURITE  POET?

Pupil 1:  I think he is Abai Kunanbaev. Teacher: Yes, the theme of our lesson is “ ABAI, A GREAT KAZAKH POET”. Tell me, please, about his biography. When and where he was born. How he got his education, about his parents, about his dreams. And first of all – WHAT IS HE? Pupil 1 :   Abai is a national poet. Pupil 2 :   Abai is a wonderful translater Pupil 3 :   Abai is a fine composer. Pupil 4 : Abai is a great philosopher. Teacher: Well done.  I’d like to advise you to speak about Abai Kunanbaev from 4 aspects: a) A POET                 b) A TRANSLATER        c) A COMPOSER        d) A PHILOSOPHER.

That’s why I want to divide you into 4 groups and every group takes its problem.

Pupil 1 : Abai Kunanbaev was born on the  10th of August in 1895 and died on the 6th of July in 1904.He was a great Kazakh poet, composer and philosopher. He was also a cultural reformer toward European and Russian cultures on the basis of Islam.  He was the son of Kunanbay and Uljan, Kunanbay’s second wife. They named him Ibrahim but because of his brightness he soon was given the nickname “ ABAI ” meaning “ carefull”, a name that stuck  for the rest of his life.

One of them is the poem AUTUMN by Abai Kunanbaev, translated by our teacher.

HEAVY CLOUDS COVERED THE SKY                                                                                                                                                                                                AND THE FOG WITH RAIN CAME ON THE LAND                                                                                                                                                               LATER AUTUMN MADE HORSES AND FOALS TO TRY                                                                                                                                                     NOT TO TREMBLE WITH COLD THANKS TO JOGGING AND GAMES.                                                                                                                          

Teacher:  I’d like you watch the clip to the Abai’s song  “ Zhelsyz tunde zharyk ay.” (all watch the clip)

.                Now listen to the music to Abai’s song  “ Aittym salem,Kalamkas” ( Listening and watching by                 .                 the  video.  The pupil of the 7th form plays the piano)

.                 Let us sing the song  “ Kurzimning karasy”  by Abai in Kazakh and in English. ( all the pupils sing .                 the song in 2 languages.)

Teacher:  Well done. You have worked well and now I’d like you read the text about Abai. But first of all let’s learn some new words according to the theme.

NEW WORDS: WORLD – the word WORLD has many meanings. 1. It means the earth with all people, animals and vegetables( plants). So we can speak of the people’s world, animal world, vegetable world. 2. Everyone lives on the earth. It means everyone lives in the world. The Sun is in the center of our world 3. English is a world language. 4. My sister came to this world on the first of May that is she was born on the first of May. 5. My home is all the world to me. 6. We know 4 corners of the world. They are the North, the South, The East, the West. 7. Abai is well-known all over the world.

SETTLEMENT [ setlment ] – a place or a region newly settled, small village. 8. When America was discovered many European people came to the north-east and set up their settlements.

MASTERPIECE [MASTЭPI:S] 9.  A  work done with extraordinary skill. An  excellent painting, book, music.

STRICT [strikt] 10. Someone who is strict has definite rules that they expect people to obey completely. 11. He is a quite a strict trainer but we all like him. 12. Our granny is very strict with us about table manners.

Well done. Let’s read the text of exercise II at page 48-49. READING the text: p1, p 2, p3, etc.

You see the text is very interesting, I’m sure you understand it. So , let’s check its understanding and fulfill the next work. One by one some pupils will go to the blackboard and write a sentence according to the theme of the lesson
