Lesson Plan


Title of lesson: Picture of London


Author: Sonya Ghazaryan


Grade: 8


Theme: the peculiarities of the city.


Time required: 1 lesson (45 minutes)


Objectives: - to develop reading skills, analytical thinking


- to learn new words, to enrich vocabulary

- to get acquainted with the city and its peculiarities


- to compare London and Yerevan


Materials required: books, pictures, cards, Internet resources


Procedure:


1. Introductory Activity: The lesson will start by showing some pictures with the headlines on the wallpaper and the students have to guess what city it is.

2. Explore the concept:

The students will read and discuss the lesson, share the information given them beforehand. Then the teacher will ask questions about the city and the students will answer them using the material on the wallpaper. The questions can be: What places of interests do you know? or What are the similarities of London and Yerevan?

3. Practice the Concept – Guided Practice with Feedback:

Then, here we can use Vann diagram. The teacher will discuss the lesson with the students and they will be asked to find the similarities and differences of London and Yerevan.




4. Independent Practice

During independent practice the teacher will get the students into the groups and they will search additional information using the Internet and library resources. The topics from which they can choose are:

  1. symbols of the cities

  2. places of interests

  3. geography

Before conclusion the students will share the information searched in the Internet or in the books.

5. Conclusion

In conclusion to today’s activities the students will do comparison of these two cities. They will speak about the similarities and differences of London and Yerevan.

Evaluation

Formative assessment will include questioning of the students, observations of the groups (active behavior, oral speech,).

The summative assessment will include the students’ presentation of group work, their speaking and reading comprehensions.
