Ok children we start our lesson with text about Tuvalu – a disaster waiting to happen

Ex 8 read and listen

  1. Discuss these questions

  1. What might be the biggest consequences of global warming?

  2. How is global warming affecting small islands?

  3. Which countries are more responsible for global warming- big ones or small ones. Why?

Read the text and listen. Check your answers.

Read the text again and match the words or phrases with their definitions.

Threaten not smooth, violent

Uninhabitable getting bigger or getting higher

Rising make smaller, make lower

Rough say that you will not do or accept something

Refuse likely to cause harm or damage to someone or something

Source very small

Tiny cannot be lived in

Reduce the place something comes from or start at

Ex 9 p 59

Read the following statement. Next to each statement, make a note of how much you agree or disagree( 0= I don’t agree at all )

  • They have always been natural disasters. People don’t make them happen……

  • If we kill all insects with chemical, the world will have fewer problems……

  • The people from Tuvalu have the right to live in any country they want to

  • The price of petrol needs to be ten times higher than it is now. Then people might not drive so much, and there might be less global warming

  1. For each statement, write a sentences or two about why you agree or disagree.

I totally agree that the people from Tuvalu have the right to choose where they would like to live. Rich countries need to help them because they have caused global warming.

Ex c) get together in small groups. Tell each other what you think about the statement. Give reasons and discuss each other’s opinions.

Ex 10 Writing

Read the newspaper story. What happened to the man. How was he rescued?

Ex 10 b) Look at the pictures of a forest fire. Describe what you can see in each picture. Use some of the words in the box.

Catch fire strong winds very hot weather leave their homes drop a cigarette

Dry leaves not control the fire burn
