  • To present exceptions of degrees of comparison adjectives and do task with it;

  • To reinforce and practice reading for gist;

  • To practice students’ speaking skill through oral answers.

Objectives:

  • SWBAT to ask the questions according to the read text

  1. Greeting. “Good afternoon, dear pupils. Please, take your seats. First of all, let’s check who is absent today.”

  1. Checking homework. “Now we are going to check your homework. What was your home task? – “Messages 2” WB, p. 47 ex. 4 and learn by heart 5 proverbs about home and travelling. Revise and correct students’ homework one by one.

  1. Point on the colored pictures on the blackboard. They are planet, stars, telescope and rocket. Ask students to guess the today’s theme of the lesson. The theme of reading material is the pastime – astronomy.

Study

  1. Then show them the exceptions of degrees of comparison adjectives: good – better - the best; bad – worse – the worst; little – less – the least; far – farther – the farthest etc. Pupils should learn it by heart.

Activate

  1. Afterwards ask them to open their student’s book at the page 84 and look at exercise 3. Students do this exercise singly. Give them time to prepare. Check their answers randomly.

  1. Reading part. Pre-reading stage. Point on the new vocabulary items with transcriptions. Tell students that we are going to read little essay about Matt’s pastime.

  2. While-reading stage. Ask students to look at the exercise 4 and read the text in chain and translate each sentence using new words.

  3. Post-reading stage. Ask students several questions according to read material.

  1. Preparation for homework. Tell students that their home task will be reading the text, therefore they need to learn new words from this text. Point on the other side of the blackboard with new words from the text “Emily’s ambition” (SB, p.85). Tell students to write new vocabulary items down.

Final stage

  1. Give marks and home task to the children. Tell students to choose one card with task. Home assignment: “Messages 2” SB, p. 85 – read the text and answer the questions and do task from cards in written form.
