Theme: “The largest lake in the world”

Aims:

  • To reinforce known material;

  • To practice work in small groups;

  • To practice intensive reading.

Objectives:

  • SWBAT make sentences with structure “to be going to do smth” and use it in their speech;

  • SWBAT use new vocabulary items during reading;

  • SWBAT answer the given questions according to the text.

  1. Greeting.

Good afternoon, dear pupils. Please, take your seats. First of all, let’s check who is absent today.”

  1. Checking homework.

Now we are going to check your homework. What was your home task?” – “Messages 2” SB, p. 85 – read the text and answer the questions and do task from cards in written form.

Firstly, collect the students’ copybooks to check their written task. Then, start to check their oral exercise – ask questions according to the text: What’s Emily’s ambition? Why is August 15th an important date? Who won the race last year? Each students should answer minimum two questions. Afterwards, do group checking of new vocabulary items from the text. During the control of homework do some notes, which help you to make final mark for all students.

Engage

  1. Revising known material.

Now we are going to revise your knowledge on grammar structure “to be going to do smth” Let’s make small groups of five” Help students to make groups. Give students cards with words. “There are the cards with words, and now your task is to make sentences using all these words. Pay attention on the structure “to be going to do smth”. You have 2 minutes to complete this task.” Wait until all students have done this exercise and check students’ answers one by one.

  1. Well done! And now, please. Open your Student’s Book a the page 86 and look through the exercise 3.” Ask one of the students to read the task aloud. Start doing this exercise immediately with pupils. Check students’ answers randomly.

  2. Let’s look at the blackboard. What is this? Who wants to guess the theme of our lesson?” When students try to predict the theme, write the theme down on the blackboard.

  1. Pre-reading stage.

Dear pupils, right now we are going to read the text about the largest lake in the world. Do you know what lake is the largest on the Earth” If students know the concrete answer, tell compliment to them. If they don’t know, just tell them the name of the lake and it’s location. Then, give each student a card with new words and their transcriptions.

First of all, we should learn new words.” Work out each word and ask students to try to make sentences with new words.

  1. While-reading stage.

Please, look at the page 87 and begin to read.” Students read the text in chain and translate each sentence using new words. Help them if it necessary.
